Isn't that because he's one of those guys that is so focused on improving himself and doing everything right, that it can alienate those who aren't so dedicated to footy? Think Weitering at Carlton in his first few years was the same, pretty sure he's vice captain there

Last night probably underscored my point regarding Steele.. Dougal, was clearly hampered with a hip injury but the collective decision, rightly or wrongly was that a restricted Howard was better than no howard.
He couldn't really run, so I wouldn't criticise him for his performance.
Same with Steele, he has taken the field less than 100% in the past, it's obvious he has lost agility as a result, so I cut him some slack. Also worth noting that no one raises it as an excuse. They trot out the age old mantra that if you take the field you are 100%

He trains, he's observed, he's monitored and then selection is preformed.
At which point in this process do you want a player to step away from what we pay them to do?
If you don't like watching Steele then you have a Ross problem rather than a Jack problem.
