Autopsy Round 12 - St Kilda defeats Melbourne

NAS - the ability to take 6 or 7 steps at 3/4 pace and then change direction and put on the afterburners is just elite athleticism! And then to hit a target lace out 45 metres downfield- incredible.

I’m sure the club knows they must keep him and will leave no stone unturned on & off field.

If we lose him the effect on the supporters and players will set us back big time.

And it looks like he does it at 80% lol. He looks like he doesn't hit top gear, and still speeds past everyone. Awesome stuff, agree with whoever it was that said he could well be the best player in the competition soon

Can’t even spell their diss thread properly… bunch of ****ing muppets. 🤣

Shit club. Shit supporters. And I hope they get shit snow.

C*#ts.

Alt:
Fees v Saints: Good, bad, Bayley Fritsches face and the Ross Lyon who bent us over to make us cringe.

Remember in January this year? This is their "high performance" culture in play.

Gary Pert: Best I've seen in 40 years.
Goodwin: You'll see a team that will train really fiercely today and hopefully you'll see a team on the weekend that plays that way as well.

Which is it? High performing? Drug fuelled? Somewhere in-between? But yee, how would Gary Pert feel I wonder... been a long almost 3 months.

I need a week off, the officiating in our game is an absolute crisis and it's doing my head in.

The AFL needs to get wise heads in a room NOW and re-write the rule book for 2026 and beyond, make it easier to umpire, go back to simpler rules where they don't have to guess on things like "intent".

You put hands in the back, pay in the back, no ifs or buts. No holding your ground, no nudging in the contest, just pay it.

You take possession of the ball and don't dispose correctly, holding the ball, no ifs or buts. No more "made an attempt" or "it was knocked out", just pay it.

Even last touch out of bounds if we must.

We've got 4 umps watching every play and they've never been this inconsistent, ever.

I really appreciate hearing Razor Ray on 360, but the way he explains decisions is so complex and so there's so much interpretation involved, it's no wonder the game is cooked.

The holding the ball non-decision on Johnson, followed up by pinging Mason Wood by the same umpire in the same zone, summed up everything that is wrong in footy.

When I saw Dwayne Russel, Lewis and Healey were commentating our game on Fox I switched straight over to 7. More than happy to sit through the commercials so I didn’t have to listen to those muppets.
Healy was actually okay, amazingly. He was calling out a LOT of the crap umpiring.

Looked structurally our best setup of the year, as another poster said Wood is way better on the wing than a forward target.

If D'Arcy isn't back for the Dogs after the bye then we probably can play the same setup, hopefully with Macrae back in. A midfield of Macrae, Steele, Zones and Clarke on current form gives us a chance I reckon.

Boxshall does some really nice things.

Clearly Ross has a plan but 49% game time frustrates me.

Love how hard he is at it.

Please don’t drop him after the bye.
I think it was the first goal we scored that was really set up by a visionary and brilliantly executed kick from Boxshall that let Sharman and Owens out the back.
And he followed that up with some very quick hands from the bottom of the pack to set up Keeler for the second.

I think umpires pay what they expect to happen. Thus they umpire the "good teams/players" differently. It's the only thing that makes sense.

The 50/50s are not the issues, it's the consistency of these over the course of a game and the obvious ones being missed. Not the first time a player will get suspended and no free kick.

What was that one in the last quarter. May have been Wood or Sharman on the far wing. Held ground and the ball went over his head to run onto it and got done for blocking!!!! It’s a technique that has been around and legal for 150 years! I suppose you have to actively get out of the way of somebody if they want to run at the ball now, and they can’t be bothered going around you?!

That was Lever on Sharman.

Lever running back with the flight, took his eyes off the ball and wrapped both arms around Sharman. Somehow Lever got a free kick. Total crock of shiit. Shocking decision.

Reckon you've been sucked in the same philosophy that's caused all the shit in the first place.
Like every other pro sport they just need to keep the rules sensible (like they were before the dickheads started changingthem).
Hand the rule book the umpires. Tell them they'll be judged on fairness, consistency and the quality of game they deliver for the fans.
Let them interpret things however they want. Give them full control backed by accountability.

Less rules needs less umpires. 2 at the most..

Yeah I agree with those changes. Too many people whinge though and say "it's not footy", especially the old players on the rules committee.

Your second one is the most obvious one for mine. Make holding the ball strict liability. Get rid of "prior opportunity" because that's completely about interpretation, give them a couple of seconds when tackled to get rid of it legally and if they don't then free kick. Stripped in the tackle - free kick. None of this "holding the ball tight to your body and pretending to hit it with your fist so that you're making an attempt". Make the game way easier to umpire and we can stop whinging about this.

That did my head in. Protecting the ball drop is not blocking. They need to tear up the rule book and start again. Back to basics.

Healy was actually okay, amazingly. He was calling out a LOT of the crap umpiring.

A lot of it he was calling it as it happened, for example " that's a good tackle" then you could almost hear him mouth WTF when it went the other way.
He called the Clark tackle, ( Perfect tackle ) and the Nas knock ( head high duh ) and the Wood holding the ball, (got rid of it nicely ) only to have the umps go against his call.

Thought Clark was huge today. He has a skillset, but his attack on the ball/man is ballsy as hell.

Wilkie sublime.

Sharman solid.

Hammer had a good last quarter.

Windy stood up.

Nas's game was just ridiculous. Absolutely elite. One of the AFL's most exciting players.

Happy for Keeler. He's an exciting prospect. As he gains confidence look out.

Happy with the win... but not losing sight that they missed a lot of shots and their pressure was awful.

FMD the umpiring though. Just blatant.

Nice win against one of the form teams of the competition today.

Helped by Melbourne's lack of effort and inaccuracy, but a good performance nonetheless.

Lots to like. Great wall of Wilkie best game of the year. Keeler looking great, back in the forward line, after his coming out game in defense last week

And it's worth watching St Kilda just to watch NWM. I'll be sad if we lose him. Just carved them up today. Probably shaded for BOG by Wilkie but only cos he spent the 2nd quarter getting assessed.
