Me too. But this one looks like correct positions for most, although Bews on-ball is also unusual.

Pretty sure Bews has been named on ball in each of his VFL games this season - not sure I've seen him start there though

Oh, I didn't recall that. I haven't seen him play on-ball much if at all either. Maybe they feel like they need a bigger body there now George has won his well earned promotion.

It should be an interesting watch with the 7 AFL listed players. Edwards was exciting in his quarter and a half last week.

true, just reread our injury thread- does that suggest he failed fitness test?
Possibly, or that he wasn't necessarily close to playing this week but they wanted to give some positivity with the report on Tuesday

I'm hoping he's listed as nothing worse than "test" next week but if he doesn't play VFL against GWS on Saturday, then I'll be more concerned

There's only 6 rounds left starting next week, and we've got another bye coming up in round 19, meaning only 5 VFL games left - if Guthrie wants to push for a return to the seniors, it's going to be cutting it fine if he doesn't get back for the VFL soon

wish the byes went bye bye

There's way too many in the VFL and I'm going to hate to see what it's like next year with 22 teams in the league and then 23 the following year when Tassie is introduced

I'd rather go back to a proper AFL reserves format - I'm pretty sure that it's only the 2 WA teams not interested in that proposal due to costs, so leave them out and operate as a 16 team comp or bring in 2 VFL teams to keep it at an 18 team comp

Worse league at higher cost. No thanks.

I'm not sure the VFL is currently working as it's structured - 21 teams across 3 states, soon to be 23 across 4 and with 4 byes scattered throughout 21 rounds; it needs improving

Going back to a reserves comp where that fixture is more closely aligned with the AFL fixture would be a step in the right direction

The amount off byes has more to do with penny pinching then the number of teams

They match one or two of the byes to when the senior team have their byes - mid season and round zero team

They then unnecessarily throw in a few more

Would love to see some changes

I agree on the byes, but as Lana said the number of byes must to an extent be by choice rather than mathematical necessity, so that is fixable. Meanwhile if you go back to a national reserves comp you're looking at way more interstate travel (Geelong only went interstate twice last season and will do it twice this season) and I suspect the number of amateur players willing to do that will be way lower than the current system. That's bad because it lessens the quality AFL listed players are up against, and probably harms the pathway for guys who aren't drafted at 18.

It will be a struggle today without George the General, nor Clarke or Bowes. All that's left onball is Knevitt and Clohesy. Maybe that's why they have named Bews on-ball? I'd give Retschko a try in a more central role rather than his usual wing. Edwards should at least give them a few easier ones. Let's see if Ivisic can build on his better game from last week too.

With Duncan not playing yesterday and having a week off already what are the chances he plays at least some game time today?.

Would help keep him sharp.
According to Chris Scott in the post game presser that’s why they didn’t give him a run against the tigers. They decided he would be better off having a full game in the VFL today rather than 20 minutes in the AFL yesterday.

Here's the great man walking back to the team in final prep for today's match

At least we know he didn't sit out all of last night with a niggle picked up after the game started

Edwards good to CLohesy and Polk gets on the end of it.
