I am not going to post on the HR OOC 2026 Speculation page because it seems to me to be dominated by others not a WC discussion.

HR contract id basically sign the 2 years extension with a big holy crap front load for the amount he has done already on minimum chips, repays his faith in us and repays our faith in him.

The next contract should be to FA maybe or past that when he has completed his 5 years, we might want to put in some triggers and other stuff but putting 11 years at $1.5+ doesn't do us or him any good imo.
The next contract after FA years can be pre-agreed with certain criteria and I am all for keeping HR for life, but he and the club also need to be realistic.
If he keeps performing we will richly reward him for the long term, but he could get medically retired from concussion and do 2 ACL's in the next 5 years.
I don't know how all these pre agreed offer contracts work but if you want BIG money you need to perform BIG and I would happily reward him on Bont money.

The money and contract length with HR makes me very nervous to be honest. If we could get 3 first rounder for him with two in the top 10 for him i would rather we took that and skipped out on all the risk that is present in this type of contract for one player.

But i am very nervous that if he did decide to leave we would get well less than that. Maybe i am overly pessimistic but i just feel like we will get screwed in the end with what we get back if he goes. He will nominate a top 4 club with nothing to trade to us and there will be an old fashioned Mexican stand off.

For that reason i am leaning towards actually doing a long term deal with him even if it means overpaying him and accepting all that risk. I just think that that is preferable to being forced to take pick 15 and 20 (or something like that) for him in a trade.

There's significant risk either way.

He signs for 2 with the 9 option and still leaves at the end of 28. This scenario is the one where we are still shit and nowhere near finals. That's on us to ensure it doesn't happen.

We trade him now and have genuinely lost a midfielder that with a bit more help will wins games off his own back. He leaves now and our rebuild might be significantly hampered. For example, if it's true that other players enquired about coming to us to play with him, then if he does sign even for 2 yrs, we might be pleasantly surprised as to a couple of trade requests by a grade tallent. He leaves, they never come.

If he signs for 2 more and we are knocking on the door of finals in 28, he might just stay win 3 brownlows 3 flags and Bobs your uncle, Betty's your aunt.

Walter to the Eagles for pick 2?

Jed > Eagles
Curnow > GC
Pick 2 > Carlton
With other picks thrown around

Exactly my thoughts

Idk what our forward line would look like, Waterman Walter and Shanahan all cant really do the backup ruck work

Shanahan back to the D50?

It would get Carlton CDT, really feels like he belongs in a Carlton jumper tbh

What about the part where it says he isn't for sale?

Carlton supporters would burn the joint down if he went for pick 2 I reckon.
Could be Walter for pick 2 with us, then GCS pay pick 2 + some player for Curnow? or pick 2 + another pick
Maybe Moyle to replace TDK? Flanders involved? Humphrey?

Carlton could add whatever to make it fair, but it could be CDT + a half decent player for Curnow

Would explain why GCS was interested in our pick 2 at least, Ben King could be the one on the move too with free agency next year.
Might not be Walter out the door at GCS

Theyd be well prepped anyway

Yeah I think they are only trading King if he asks to be traded. Curnow and King forward line for next year would be enough for King to stay around for a while you’d think.

Fair to say the normally level headed Carlton supporters are taking it well.

Problem is gcs would be in the same position as us, with 3 kpfs who all can't ruck.
Walter doesnt suit us at least for pick 2 and King isnt a free agent for another year.

I dont think walter is our guy, but a pick 2 split for sure

We get absolutely pantsed in the mids every single week and you campaigners want us to trade pick 2 for another KPF?

No top line mids is the reason we are in this mess.
I’m in the get mids camp but not a great draft for pure mids. Could still get Sharp, Rodriguez and Cumming/Farrow

Hopefully for their sake Carlton realises that they've cooked this window, and this list ain't going to cut the mustard.

Cripps is 30 and banged up after carrying the side for ten years.
