How many midfield games has he played in those 125 games?

I would suggest.

None.
Agreed. Which is also a fair sign he’s not an afl midfielder….

But if you have an example of player who played 125 games, was 26, has a career average of 11.9 touches a game suddenly turning into a midfielder averaging 20+ touches a game, I’d love to hear it.

Anyone thinking that Starcevich wouldn't trip down the airplane stairs and knock himself into retirement upon being traded to us clearly hasn't been paying attention over the last 5 years.

And he is was dead average as a defender on the weekend. Humphry toweled him up.

Owies was an absolute miss but you could see the thinking behind the move, I think

Baker and graham have been very good gets.

Imagine our season without baker and graham. Would be even more diabolical.

Yes it sucked but it was necessary
Whilst Baker has been great and in hindsight looks like a good move, the reality is in terms of what matters we'd only be one win less than we are hahah

sounds like an upcoming fire sale to me...
Can’t see Petracca not being traded at the end of this year, bloke is sulking it up every game.

Never recovered from being the wallpaper to the Harley Reid highlight reel.

Don’t really want Starcevich. But won’t care too much if we get him. Feel like we’re gonna trade in a bunch of similar mature age B and C graders over the next few years, and just have to kinda deal with it

Now is the Mark Merenda, Michael Prior, David Sierakowsi and Richard Taylor of this generation. Graham and Owies exhibit A.

Jack Graham is above all of those. The issue is the importance he has for the Eagles just shows how big of a gap we have for the 25+yr olds.

I think trading for Cameron for 3 to 4 years for a round 1 pick is something a team challenging for a premiership does. I like the idea of going after Reidy...not required at Freo..not even close for a run as they would just play 1 ruckman and a forward ruck. So to me , just like Meek ( who i thought was very good and Reidy not at his level) we should try to tempt him.

I also would prefer the club chase Rivers..this may cost us say Carltons 1st rounder if he wanted to come home. Realise they may want more as Melb have the power in this trade.

And finally chasing Pick 8 surely has to be us "illegally" pressuring the two Academy picks. if they need points give them so lower end picks. But i also wouldn't be afraid to go pick 2 for 8 and Powell.

Anyway just spitballing now that Sheldrick resigned.

Wouldn't be surprised if the AFL had a word in our ear off record about that.

Yes we will wave the magic wand and you get pick 2 for Oscar.

BUT you must use that pick and our generosity to improve NOW, not use the pick on an 18 yr old. OK to split the pick and do both.

It's what I would do if I was the AFL. A mini assistance package comflaged as a compo pick.

AFL House just loves smoke and mirrors management, it's what they do.
If norf can get pick 3 for mckay and multiple priority picks as well, so can we.

Would be thrilled getting Starcevich. Long time admirer. He's an unbelievable lockdown defender. I'd be happy to trial him in midfield if thats what he's after (I mean we can just move Hough back to accommodate). And if it doesn't work out there, we get a gun defender anyway.

Did we bring in Baker to make finals this year?

Or to provide leadership?

He has earned his money more than anyone in 2025.

Take your point and I think he was a good get. Though I think one of the reasons we got him was not to play finals as you say quite facetiously but to help teach us to win.

The other point in assessing the trade is assigning a value to what we lost in terms of picks. Whatever we turned pick 3 into v baker, Allen and Grego.

However the sad case of our list being in such bad shape that it's hard to argue that almost regardless of the price we need Baker types desperately.

The question with Baker, who has done well, was never about would he be good to have, but did we need to pay pick 14 for him? Could we have got him for less?

As it is, we gave up the pick that turned into Murphy Reid for him. That is disappointing, but then the alternative was giving up pick 30 for him and missing out on Jobe Shanahan (who we probably would have took at pick 14 (slide to 17) anyway), so meh. It's a wash.

It's this, and to provide leadership. And I expect us to do it again this trade period too by trading some mid-range picks for older, serviceable but not worldbeating players. And we'll bitch about it when it happens, too.

Onfield leadership at this club is functionally non-existent. We can trade in all the Harley Reids in the world, but unless we've got senior players there teaching them the ropes and showing them when to go and when to whoa, we wont get very far up the ladder.

Simmo and his "dont give a shit anymore" attitude poisoned this club, and we have to address that before we can start building a winning culture.

They are going to need cap space. Lachie Neale for pick 46 needs to be a priority.

Don Pyke on Duffs show.

Will be applying for draft assistance.

He’s confident Harley will be here in 2026. (Mentioned he’s contracted for 2026 👀) Negotiations are going well. Pretty much what you’d expect he would say. Spoke about it hard to predict what salary caps and list sizes would look like down the road.

Presented offers to Oscar last week but clearly weren’t accepted otherwise we would already know.

Spoke a bit about the assistant coaches and what is possible there.

Pretty much nothing new besides we will be applying for assistance.

Imagine trading a fair premium for Starcevich the lockdown defender...

And thinking he'll just suddenly waltz in and be a competent AFL midfielder at your club, without ever having done that before and without playing midfield since U18's.

That would be peak arrogance by West Coast.

I'm not buying it.

Anything Brisbane get for Starcevich is a bonus - because they're milking free agency for all its worth in Allen and Draper this year - so I'd think we're talking about third round picks or future 3rds. Even an upgrade on their 2nd to the Hawks 2nd for points.

In this draft I'd happily pay that for an experienced head in our backline.

There is no reason that we should trade anything for Starcevich beyond a late late pick. Otherwise walk him to the PSD and tell him it's that or nothing if he wants to come home. If we can't at least do that, then what's the point of the PSD given we are so shit, we can't afford to be nice guys.

I should clarify i like Starcevich as a player, but we have so many defenders now, including Hough who i'm not convinced will make it as a full time mid, and is better as a defender, that we just don't need to pay a premium for another one.

Correct, but as we all know, Brisbane hold the cards knowing we have to trade and will just say "if you idiots want him then trade for him..." And that's that.

He won a flag with that club, he's spent his whole AFL career there, they gave him his shot.... He's not just walking to the PSD for free and pissing on all of that.

Personally I'm not interested at all. Would rather go after Matt Crouch, Will Brodie, Fiorini, even Dev off the garbage bin.
