The rucks in the AFL are pretty much the weakest ever. Outside Gawn who outdoes everybody, no other ruck is really getting hold of us with hollywood taps and having the ascendancy that you are talking about. We ****ing suck when the ball hits the deck anyhow.

*Hell, DeKoning has less hitouts and he is up for a million dollar contract despite rucking most the season solo
That's because the rules don't allow rucks to jump anymore, so there's no development for that type of rucking at the junior level. CDT case in point

We desperately need help in the middle, unless we add some mature talent this offseason. Next year is going to be the same, if you cant break even in the middle, you ain't winning shit

I have no idea whos gettable and if money will be enough. Even throw pick 2 on the table. Worth trying Warner again? Cripps?

If we’re trading pick 2 for a more established mid they need to be 20-24yo.

eg. FOS, Warner, Rivers (and change)

25-26yo wait or use free agency

27yo+ too old to be there and effectual when it matters.

And we have a lesser need for an outside mid- the contest is where it is at at this stage.

I think when it comes to midfielders we actually need 3 and not 1. In the WAFL we had what 1 midfielder playing and 3 rucks? All up we are about 6 midfielders short so ideally id like 3 from the draft, 3 from mature agers and then 1 ruck and 1 KPP defender somewhere down the line. Given we need 3 bodies I dont think we can afford to just go for A grader.

Once again it comes down to courage and us having the ability to get someone over. The three that I think would work is Erasmus, Davies and Berry .

Just watched the Dyson Sharp highlights from yesterday, thanks noobermensch

12 marks is very promising from him, especially given there were concerns about his outside game. He's put those concerns to bed over the past few months and shown that he can impact the game on the inside and outside

He's a neat kick too I reckon

Our first priority whether thru the draft or recruiting we need a ruckman who doesn't put it down the throat of the oppositions mids at centre bounces and can take marks around the ground and not be made to look like a complete and utter goose by Max Gawn. To win games we need to be competitive in the centre clearances.

Pick 1 would be nowhere near enough for Curtin this year. I'd even debate if both our top picks would be. This years draft absolutely sucks and doesn't even have one stand out gun to take at pick one to redeem it.

Playing in a good team helps, but Curtin has scary levels of potential that I didn't think he would have.
That's a bit overdramatic. I haven't seen much of this draft class but Sharp and Cumming have shown they'll be able to hold their own. I wonder if everyone is labelling this as a bad draft class because most of the best prospects aren't Vic Metro.

Plain and simple we need a half decent ruckman to compete and break even in the middle. We won't get one of those in the draft.

More like they are unco *******s that wouldn't get a look in unless they were 195cm+

Totally agree except club should be looking for mids coming into their 25th season that are not getting a run at it due to a team being stacked in the midfield department.

Erasmus is probably the easiest

I don't think our list management has the smarts or balls to land Davies or Berry

Give Neale a two year deal and a assistant coaching role at the end of it like we did for Mitchell

We need a massive list cleanout this year.

Sheed - retired
Hunt - delist
Cripps - I think his time has come (retire)
Allen (FA) - pick 2 compo
McGovern - retired
Petreccelle - delist
Harry Barnett - delist
Jamieson - delist
Rawlinson - delist
Livingstone - delist

That's 10 spots I'd be freeing up at a minimum.

Others to Consider

Chesser - 3 games to prove 1 year extension (might be saved by the list above)
Bazzo - I have my doubts (might be saved by the list above)
Flynn - I think he's delisted next year
B.Williams - I'd honestly look to trade him this year
Newton - I think has shown enough to him give another year
Long - 1 year left - I think he needs to move to midfield for beagles to see if we can find something in him
Owies - 2 years left - unless something changes he could be delisted next year (ideally this year but won't happen)
Johnston - has potential but stagnated - I think he's delisted next year unless he really breaks out
Cole - 1 more year then re-access

Ryan - trade at the right price

It's grim to think we have 19 players on our list I can make an argument for being delisted...

If Essendon are open to moving up to 1 or 2 (or both) I'd seriously consider it if we can still get what we want (Sharp / Cumming ect).

Hopefully we can prelist our NGAs / FS and take 4-5 live picks (something like 1, 4,5 (Essendon trade for 2, Ryan & Hawks 2nd), 13 (pick 10 that moves back 3 spots) our 2nd rd & our third (I'd trade the rest of the remaining picks into the future if we can prelist our NGAs. I'd then ransom off our 2nd pick (could have value as pick one on second day) and leave our 3rd rounder for a slider or another trade on draft night.

If we can then pick up a few senior mids to help out too I think that would be a good offseason (Erasmus, Neale (pipedream), Davies ect.

I'm just not sold on Cameron for what'll cost to get him. If we get a priority pick then sure but I just don't see us getting more than a few extra rookie spots and maybe prelisting our NGAs/FS.

I think we should train Jack Williams and Archer Reid and go with them for the Future - not sure they're doing worse than what we've currently got - then sign a free agent ruck next year.

Great post, agree with just about everything. Cameron for the right price. 👍
