It happens at 3:06 in this clip. You can slow down the play back speed and count the steps. By my count it's about half a step before he gets tackled. It's a free because of the poor "one arm free interpretation", but there's no way he can get a disposal away.

Edit: I made a gif

The current expectation is that you drop it into your boot with one hand
No attempt - HTB
If you connect - all good
If you miss the boot - 50/50 call depending on the umpires angle

Yep,
I take it back, it’s holding the ball. In my defence, I didn’t see the one arm being free which is the newish rule. Didn’t have prior in my opinion but the one arm takes away prior.

I do find amazing that the AFL’s own rules encourages chicken wing tackles and players concussing themselves trying to kick it mid air.
So true on the chicken wing
The AFL and its struggle with interpretation of its rules reminds me of that Terminator scene

I'm onboard the Cripps train however he's contracted till 2027, its probably a bridge too far to make a deal work for both teams.

He had a chance to dispose of the ball in my opinion. The bigger issue was the Carlton player just before that ducked his head and took on the tackler was spun around and got a dubious at best disposal off which in my opinion was incorrect disposal.

clip the other side, he takes 3 steps, 4 if you count the last one when he is dragged to the ground, will meet in the middle at 3.5

It was HTB clear as day, had to give the first give to Clark

I'm talking about the step from receival to the start of the tackle, after that is a different discussion.

1000003853.png
He hasn't received the ball yet in this pic

1000003849.png
He receives it here landing on his right foot

1000003850.png
Step one on to his left foot and Forgarty is almost touching him already

1000003851.png
Step one and a half (because his right foot hasn't touched the ground yet) and Forgarty has pinned his right arm in the tackle.

I reckon that makes it worse, he then takes another two while trying to break through the tackle, if there is room to get another two steps then there is time to dispose of it.

I'd be pissed off if it was flipped and that wasn't paid to us (although Carlton probably would've just one hand thrown it and got away with it lol)

From the Carlton rumour thread, take it with a grain of salt:

“Cripps also wants out. He’s looking to finish his career in WA and doesn’t seem fussed about which club takes him — though West Coast looks like the obvious frontrunner.

Given the source’s track record and recent form, I’m confident this Cripps part is legit. Expect it to go public in the coming weeks.”
Honestly would take him. 100%.
He is a stoppage bull and exactly what Brayshaw and Serong need. We’re in the window and Cripps is useful.

I’d love to have Cripps on the cheap. Like, fire sale, future-fourth-and-Carlton-retains-salary cheap. Like the time my NHL club got paid a first rounder to take a player who was frequently injured… who then came good and got traded for another first rounder.

Good player but looks likely to fall off a cliff physically a la Fyfe (not that his best was near Fyfe’s)

Jackson and Cripps do not mix.

We do need more mid depth with Fyfe, Brodie and Ras possible departures, JOM not too long after, but I prefer someone with less mileage on the odometer, who can stick around through the window.

Also Carlton get smashed outside stoppages for a reason, one of those reasons is Cripps.

And prefer if we can’t get someone a better age & type, we take our picks.

Fremantle premiership captain Patrick Cripps does have a ring to it.

With Goodwin reported to have been sacked, is Kosi still possible?

I assume he signed the big contract because they told him he gets paid the big bucks and if he goes to Freo they will be forced to pay him the big bucks so win win. Maybe Demons pay part of his contract?

Had the same devilish thoughts!

The game on the weekend showed how valuable Cripps would be as he slaughtered us in the centre stoppages. He would maintain his current level for another 3 years as he wouldn't have to carry a whole team on his back as he has been doing for so many years.
Or more likely his body would fall apart in his first season having to get on a plane for 8 hours every second week.

There was absolutely one just like this in our F50 in (I think) the 2nd qtr that wasn't paid. More steps than Banfield even.

That's par for the course when you play Carlton though I guess.

Petracca starting his career drafted with a Brayshaw and then ending it alongside another in purple would be nice.
