2 main reasons:
1) The offer may be a significantly better offer than the one our club is offering.
2) He comes from Perth. He grew upin Perth. His family are still in Perth & he loves & miss’s Perth
Gettable said the perth pull isn't real, and he doesn't really have much of a desire to go back there. This feels like exactly what i said. He wants to go to the club who offers him the most money, and probably the best role. It's known he's always wanted midfield minutes and that will never happen under us.

Not sure if posted elsewhere but you have to admit, this is so funny in an article on AFL.com about Morris:

Over his final two years as a junior, Morris spoke to 17 of the 18 AFL clubs.

"The only club he didn't speak to was St Kilda, which ironically have been the most vocal about the advantages Brisbane and other northern state clubs get with their academies."

How good is that last line and we are glad you ended up with us too!

It surprises me that someone so good as a small defender is hellbent on playing in the midfield at this point in his career.

Whenever I see 'wants more midfield time' I assume it means 'wants more money.'

He was kind of "forced" into that role if he wanted to play in the ones. Was no space for him, even back in 2018/19, in the midfield.

I remember the one game he played in the 2019 season (against the Suns), and he didn't light the world on fire as a mid.

However, he was drafted as a mid, probably had dreams of being one, get into the ones as a defender, wins the cup, gets in a spot with concussion that gives him very little time to live out the dream, then looks for the opportunity to do so.

Makes sense that he wants to play as a mid, hence why North will probably be out of the picture, but how Starce would fit into the Bombers midfield is only something they know.

The Crows board seem to think Ah Chee is heading to them on a 4 year deal.. Would be sad to see him go that is for sure. I hope he stays with us but maybe we aren't offering a long term deal like Adelaide is?

If he goes, it means the club gives McKenna another deal. Got Shagga and McCarthy in for another year as well, but two ACL's mean we will not come back to what he once was.

Can't give any of the older mob any big/long-term deals anymore, with Ashcrofts x 2, Bailey, Morris, Kai, Marshall, Kiddy and Annable coming up in a few years.

I don’t doubt we’d offer 4 years. I’d say Adelaide are just offering materially more than we can.

We are in an odd position with our list. We are in our sixth year of finals, 2 grand finals and a flag, and we have all of these top end talents in the under 22 bracket (including Annabelle) who will need to get paid. I’m sure that poses rather unique challenges re retention.

I do hope that when Annable plays for us that we all make sure our autocorrects are appropriately configured

Believe it or not I spent a second thinking about correcting it when I typed it out but I know how good it gets people.

It’s why you’ll see me drop in the occasional answorth and raynor

And he recently purchased a house in Perth.

Like some others here, I hope like hell someone gives him a 4 or 5 year contract. As a sport's person when you're standing on the cliff face look out over a clouded (concussion) future you take the longest and highest paying contract you can. I'd love to see someone give him 5 years, he has been a great servant of our club and I'll cheer for him every time he runs on, for whoever it is. He has earned the right for his 'superannuation'.

Ah Chee is not a restricted free agent or free agent is he?

Any other team will have to trade for him.

Just makes me think of this:

You couldn't make it today, because of W0KE

This, in my opinion, is a cop-out.

Most AFL players who make it through their first and second contracts and who effectively become long-term players are, in this era, afforded exceptional off-field opportunities that most people could only dream of. These arise not just from their public profile but through the vast professional and alumni networks that AFL clubs, the AFLPA, and sponsors enable them to access. Just look at someone like Matthew Pavlich, now the CEO of an AFL club, despite only a modest business background. That kind of post-footy role isn’t an anomaly; it’s increasingly the norm for well-established players.

Much of the commentary around these 7+ year players entering the back end of their careers seems to rely on the assumption that if they don’t get a final ‘big contract’, they’ll be financially stranded, scraping together a living for the rest of their lives. That’s just not reflective of the reality. Even in the unlikely scenario that a former player only lands a so-called ‘menial’ job after retiring, the fact remains that if they’ve managed their finances responsibly they should be well-positioned. Many will have paid off, or be close to paying off, their mortgage. Considering that housing costs typically make up 30–50% of an average household's expenses, having a home already paid off puts them at a significant financial advantage with substantially higher disposable income than most Australians.

I just don’t buy into this narrative that AFL players are victims of a harsh post-career economic reality, or that they need one last inflated pay day as a matter of fairness. To me, the justification that chasing top dollar at the end of a career outweighs loyalty or the like, feels like a distortion of both their privilege and their responsibility. The “he’s earned his superannuation” line is, frankly, a bit of a croc. These are elite athletes with elite access, most of whom will continue to do just fine.
They won’t be stranded but it also makes sense to earn as much as you can while you can. Highly doubt he’ll walk into a job paying as much as he could earn playing footy while he’s able to.

Ah Chee had a fantastic year last year, but am i only the one that thinks his form this year has been average? I also wonder if he goes, should we try and throw one of our younger players in there to get minutes? Cameron will keep declining, and McCarthy (who will get another contract for 1 season) is a total unknown given his injury.

I still think he has played his role of limiting the damaging rebounding defenders pretty well for the most part. In my view it’s a critical position for us so if he needs to be replaced that needs to be the focus. A forward who can lockdown on rebounding defenders.

Yeah he's a hard one to get a grasp on i imagine if you are watching on tv like i almost always have to.

His final series was absolutely off the charts. He was our best finals player imo. Barely wasted a disposal. He was the one who kicked the first goal of the cats comeback too which goes undermentioned.

Given our propensity to drop off in terms of accountability and pressure he is the sort of player you would want to hang on. Seems to be popular too. I guess we might be getting to the point where we just can't keep them all with the talent we have getting to contracts 2 and 3. But hopefully we can keep the sense of loyalty we have managed to instill at least to a large degree.

I would be surprised if he leaves - searched for years for consistency. At a club having success. Is very shy so being in a comfortable place without a lot of pressure would help.

But if it's for an extra$1m or so total dollars, well this is his last chance for a big contract.

Pretty sure he’s been carrying a knee injury all season, even though his (left?) knee isn’t as heavily strapped as it was at the beginning of the season.

He's had some good games and played his role well in others whilst not 100% fit imo but managed to get up nearly every week.

We don't have anyone else with his versatility combined with the selfless side of his game which is internally valued.

I'd be very surprised if we let him go but everyone has a price and we wouldn't be offering what others might be prepared to throw at him.

Brandon Stacevich and Callum Ah Chee leaving would be a significant blow IMO, both elite players in their positions.

Who else on our list can play their role to an adequate level.

Starcevich- Beecken, Reville, Brain, Fletcher probably the best fit.

Ah Chee- McLachlan, maybe Lohmann would be capable.
