You would think if Starce was staying, he would have signed on by now. Especially after the concussion scare. The fact that he hasn't means he's either trying to up his value so we have to pay a lot more to keep him, or he actually wants to go.

If he hadn't had the concussion, we would know by now if he's staying or leaving. From what I understand, everyone involved in his contract/FA decision put it on ice while he was recovering from the concussion

Any contract from any club will have a concussion clause in it. It's a matter of Brandon picking the right one for him and it's not necessrily about $. My heart goes out to the bloke & his family.:disappointed::cry:
I know nothing about football contracts… but would this be allowed? Seems like some form of discrimination, brought on by a workplace injury.
Just because another player hasn’t yet had a concussion, it doesn’t mean they’re not also susceptible - it’s just an unknown.
Same for our taste for signing players with known knee/leg issues - if Doedee gets picked this weekend and (god forbid) does his knee again, he’d still got 2 years remaining on his contract.

I expect you can have trigger clauses based on games played etc. which would not be fulfilled if the player gets injured.

Just turned 26yo. I guess if he has say 6 years left that is enough time for any team to rise.

Maybe i am delusional but i still think North has the list out of the 3 that could bounce very quickly. There is such a gap between their on-field efforts and the talent on paper it is starting to feel like it must be coaching.

Norf aren’t going anywhere with Sleepy Clarko, and they won’t admit that mistake for at least another year or two.

Give us your pick 1 and deal done, get a pick in before the Daniel Annabel bid.
There's a rumour that they asked for exemption from FA compensation costs for bringing in players as part of their assistance from the AFL. So they would be able to pick him up as a FA without affecting their compo for Allen

We should consider matching a contract for starce and forcing a trade imo. Don’t need anything outrageous but even a late second is helpful.

Definitely. West Coast were admittedly quite fair in compensating us for Yeo when we were at our lowest (at least compared to other clubs that came to pick over our carcass) so I wouldn’t want to do an Essendon in negotiations, but it’s certainly worth us making sure a trade is forced.

Ethan Phillips was on the Hawks list last year, played 1 game, not sure if he was injured during that year. Hawks delisted him so they must view him as not AFL worthy, I have no memory of him.

Would you view him as a better option than Darragh Joyce(OOC) even if it's only for depth?
Only really watched him when he's played us in VFL, but off limited vision, I reckon so. Joyce makes too many bad decisions.

Bit of a 3rd tall swingman(191cm), played 14 games this season, handy player but I don't think he would add much to our side.

Swingman you say? At 25 he'd sure have a mature body, how do you think he would go if just settled down in defense? Around the same height as Froggy and Gardiner, is he AFL standard?

I'd describe him as solid, not as good as Froggy or Dizzy, good depth though.

I wouldn't be dead set against him on our list but we would have to trade for him as he is not OOC till next year.

He had a big year in 2023 with 40 goals in VFL. Could've moved back then and locked a good first 22 spot in a team like Melbourne Demons for example. 2024 was an average year for him but chose to re-sign for 2 years again for whatever reason.

He looks ok as a second tall in forward line or defense. But I think him staying on at dogs without opportunities may have diluted his value in open market.

Seems like he's looking to move now despite being under contract.

Another left field idea. What about training Gallop as a back man. If you have watched any VFL you can plainly see his love in tackling and going hard at defense. I feel that with OA coming in next Ty’s chances playing forward will be roadblocked. I think he has the key abilities to be a defender.
Maybe we should try it for a few games next season and see if it works. It doesn't seem like Lloyd and Zakostelsky are banging down the door to the seniors when playing down back, so maybe one of them swapping places with Gallop might get the best out of them. We drafted Lloyd as a forward after all.

I'm cackling. Ahhhhhhhhh! Good old Nicksy has pulled a swift one on the smartest man in footy.

Shame he didn't use a Jordan Peterson quote to sum up the situation.

To paraphrase someone on twitter, maybe if the Crows win the flag it will end the nonsense that good teams automatically have good culture.

There's this, as well as the very weird scapegoating of Rachele last year as good evidence of a very strange approach to managing personalities.

They've also tried to give up the farm for guys like Oliver and Petty, and have been bailed out by the likes of Melbourne being dumb and refusing to trade.

Entire dynasties have been built/maintained by the Dees refusal to accept reality and accept gift trades.

In fairness sleepy old Geelong would have kept Oliver on the straight and narrow. He'd just mysteriously miss the game after the bye, just like Stengle and Smith did!

I appreciate that, it was more the "three club race for Lion" being Kangas, Eagles and Bombers.

God only know why Starc would want to wind up at any of the clubs; what an uninspiring list.

Amazingly, good old Saints aren't interested lol

As others said I get why Starce would be looking for whatever money he can get given the concussion issues. I really hope we or a decent team give him good money and he doesn't have to deal with those disasters.

2 main reasons:
1) The offer may be a significantly better offer than the one our club is offering.
2) He comes from Perth. He grew upin Perth. His family are still in Perth & he loves & miss’s Perth
