Not unhappy with the prospect is Eze. Quality player, and one possessing a skill set that is in short supply.

However, I am struggling to see the strategy. Gyökeres is not a striker for sdituations, one of things that excited this season was the ability to switch between Havertz and Gyökeres as the game situation required. No Kai means that when teams are parked deep and there is no space for Vik to run into, we are looking at Trossard as false 9 or Merino up top again. Eze doesn't change that.

I am very worried that if Vik doesn't find a groove early, or worse gets injured, we are going to be looking at a similar scenerio as last season.

Well this has really buttered my bread. Couldn't be happier.

Eze is such a fun player to watch, and he will add a much needed injection of unpredictability, creativity and versatility to the size. Plus he's a big game player.

I can see us playing him alongside Ødegaard, with Rice or Zubimendi anchoring, when we are struggling to break down low blocks.

Squad:

CF - Gyokores, Merino, Trossard (+ Havertz, Jesus)
LW - Martinelli, Trossard, Madueke, Eze
RW - Saka, Madueke + Nwaneri (+ Jesus)

LCM - Rice, Eze, Merino (+ Havertz)
RCM - Ødegaard, Nwaneri (+ Havertz)
DM - Zubimendi, Norgaard + Rice, MLS(?)

LB - Calafiori, MLS
LCB - Gabriel, Kiwior(?) + Calafiori
RCB - Saliba, Mosquera + White
RB - Timber, White

GK - Raya, Kepa

Can't really complain about that. Ideally we have a better LW, but I think with a change in tactics we will get more out of Martinelli.

Arsenal held an open training session at their stadium on Wednesday, with supporters given the chance to see the team preparing for Saturday's home match against Leeds United.

It is unusual for Mikel Arteta to give insight into his sessions and although the training may have been altered, here is what we saw.

The players started the warm-up with mascots and played small-sided games before jogging around the pitch.

The first thing noticed was Kai Havertz, who it has since been revealed has suffered a knee injury, Ben White and Christian Norgaard were missing from the session.

Max Dowman was again training with the first-team squad and the 15-year-old impressed during the match played in an area created in the middle of the pitch.

Summer signing Martin Zubimendi played for both teams in a different coloured bib as Arteta looks to get the midfielder used to what he wants fromhim. Once the session was finished, Arteta had a lengthy chat with Zubimendi about positioning.

Riccardo Calafiori, who scored the winning goal against Manchester United, was receiving one-to-one coaching from the left side of the pitch and then was drilled on putting crosses into the box.

Eze elevates our window from a decent one to an excellent one

  • All major areas addressed, those being depth on the wings, a proper CF, replacement for Partey
  • Added depth at CB
  • Retained Kiwior
  • Competition for Martinelli
  • Cover for Saka which will also allow Nwaneri to play more minutes as a #10
  • Back up GK who would start for more PL sides than not

Competition for places under Arteta has never been hotter and that can only be a good thing.

Some outgoings are needed now, Jesus and Zinchenko are surely the top of that list

I don't agree all areas have been address, still feel we are light on the left wing. Unless the assumption is that is where Eze plays, but I don't see that as the best use of him.

Eze's signing actually makes the sale of Kiwior more likely in my view. He is one of the few depth players we have with any value.

Jesus is going nowhere. Nobody is buying him injured, and he may well be need later in the year as a rotation option if Havertz is out of most of the season.

I’d say Eze will be used both centrally and on the left. He can play both well.

Eze, Ødegaard and Saka linking up will be a joy to behold. Havertz would fit in well with them.

Not too sure Gyokores has the technique to keep up if those three are playing tippy-tappy ball, but then again they just need to create a little space for him to take a shot.

I think anything less than a 3 month layoff for Havertz is a bonus. It certainly does seem serious, for the club to act as swiftly and decisively yesterday.

Clearly he/his representatives were stalling negotiations, waiting for Arsenal to decide. Tim Lewis and Steve Parish have a good business relationship and things happened very quickly once Arsenal made their intentions clear.

Eze is one of those signings that you just do, and fine tune some details/sales later to accomodate. An Ozil style signing that just lifts the entire place. He was always going to be an excellent signing regardless.

However now it’s funny too.
