Isak being able to walk next year means it's hard to see a deal not happening. No way they'd want the drama of a year with him likely not playing to just get his contract paid back to them, be a tiny percentage of a potential sale.

Isak has 3years left on his contract…?

Article 17. A lot of talk they'll likely use this if no deal is done.

Suarez came back to play after he refused training and publicly asked to leave for Arsenal, Isak won't sit out a world cup year
I dont remember a statement from Suarez like the one Isak put out though. Looks to be absolutely no way Isak plays for Newcastle again.

Following former Lassana Diarra’s victory in the European Union’s top court last year, prompted FIFA to change their rules around player moment.

Now, they are more player-friendly than the previous ones, which were deemed to restricting.

One such change is that the club who signs the player no longer has to prove that they did not collude with the player to breach their contract and force a move.

Article 17 can be invoked within 15 days of the final match day of the season by players who have spent three years under contract with a club, or two if they are 28 years of age or older.

Once Article 17 is invoked, the player is deemed to have breached contract, and is free to sign with another club when the transfer window re-opens.

Such a situation would allow Isak to walk to Liverpool for free and Newcastle would be given compensation based on his wages for the remainder of his contract, his value and the cost of signing a replacement.

All of which would be unlikely to yield them anything close to the Liverpool offer they turned down, according to a sports lawyer who spoke with ESPN.

So, if Newcastle hold firm, things could get incredibly messy.

I've read this but it isn't going to resolve anything right now. FIFA still ultimately have to approve the transfer too which they probably won't do until it is resolved between Isak, NUFC and the new club.

The biggest issue here is Newcastle's failure to sign the likes of Sesko etc as a replacement. I believe they've settled on selling Isak once a replacement has been signed and won't let him go if they don't secure one.

I can understand that from their point of view. It would be a big risk for them to let Isak go right now and try to secure a replacement by 1st September. With all clubs knowing they've just sold Isak for a big fee.

We really should have offered them Nunez as part of the deal to help things along.

I doubt it goes that route but just worth pointing out if it did he would be allowed to play while any approvals/protests etc. are being done.

Personally, I think it happens after we play them or possibly in January.

FIFA still has to give the go ahead on the transfer. All professionals have a professional FIFA license and are ultimately bound by FIFA.

They won't approve a registration witn a new club until compensation has been resolved between the two parties.

And that involves variables such as the cost of a replacement which is subjective and open to argument.

It's not a realistic path for a forced transfer to be entirely realistic. The likely result would be Isak in limbo until an agreement is reached on compo.

Have to admit I was totally ignorant of "Article 17". I thought that by refusing to train or play Isak was simply in breach of his contract and Newcastle would be free to sanction him. Seems like players are being given more and more power and I'm not sure I like it.

On this occasion it may help us but sure enough we'll one day be on the receiving end. Players being able to force a move with years on their contract is bullshit IMO. You signed a contract, suck it up.

The hypocrisy from Newcastle and their fans is hilarious considering Gordon did the same thing to the Blueshite to force a move to Newcastle.

Bloody hell injuries already

Jogo has played 20 minutes since Jan this year.

Then cant manage training for 3 daya.

Hate to say it but he may actually need a nice to somewhere like Serie A to rejuvenate his career.

Slot is a funny guy - in his press conference he kept a straight face and mentioned he doesn't think Isak is playing lol.

Unlucky with the injuries - Dom Szob might play right back. Gomez isn't ready yet. Would it be impossible for Robbo to play right back?
