I think Cal is worth Adelaide's first rounder to be honest. It'll likely be in the 20s after bids (maybe even mid 20s), and Cal is quite comfortably a best 22 player in the reigning premiership team.
Another premiership would secure their first pick.

My main concern with losing Cal is who replaces him directly? If we lose Starc, while it'll hurt, we've got quite a few solid defenders on the list.

Linc would be the obvious answer but he just cannot be reliable now.

Luke Lloyd? Will McLachlan? Honestly wouldn't be also opposed to trying DevRob as a permanent inside forward who can bring pressure.

Annable comes in and we shuffle the team around

I would not hold your breath for a decent pick for Ah-Chee or Starcevich even, should they decide to leave.
Without going into the complicated ones from last year.
These were the picks that were fairly straight forward.
There may have been some swaps of later round picks which is just playing hard ball to gain maybe a few points.

Konstantly + Parker - P44
Stringer - P53
Neal-Bullen P28
Jack Darling - P67
Sharp - P49
Peatling R2 selection
Caleb Daniel P25

I’m not expecting much but they are better than all of those players by a lot (stringer hanging out with bikies is why he went for a pick in the 50s).

Pick 25 for Caleb Daniel, Ah Chee worth more than him IMO.

Can understand Adelaides interest in Cal, his finals campaign last year was outstanding. However can also understand our reluctance to match a decent contract offer. Overall I’d sum his time with us an above average versatile role player with some great patches here and there. That finals stretch i do personally view him as being the product of the game plan more than individual brilliance.

Adelaide is doing to us, what we done to Geelong, picking the absolute eyes out of our depth, good list strategy really.

My preference undoubtedly would be for him to stay, these are the types of hard list decision that will need to be made to keep the core together still.

Neal-Bullen is probably the most similar in terms of age, premiership player, quality.

As most have said, would prefer to keep Starcevich over Ah Chee if the cap space is the deciding factor.

With some more development from Fagan and co and if he wants it enough I think McLachlan has the tools to play the Ah Chee role... also Brain, Tunstill, Beecken have the traits needed and could spend the off season targeting that role.

I come in peace.

Assuming the Ah Chee rumour is true, we would have a few picks to work with.

Our first would be off limits I’d imagine unless something comes back. We don’t have a second, however we do have three thirds (including the Dees’) and two fourths.

The fourths don’t help you with NGAs anymore but the thirds would offer a little bit in points if required.

I’d imagine our future second would almost certainly be on the table. Would that plus the Dees third do the trick?

Premiership player. Was crucial in finals and was probably one goal off a Norm Smith. We also want to keep him one would think.

So I’d reckon Lions would be pushing for a first round pick. Whether they get it is another thing. Realistically something in 20-30 range likely outcome.

Perhaps we could try pushing the Dees third up using other picks. That being said early suggestions are next year’s draft is superior so perhaps you’re better off just going there.

Contracted I agree our first would be required, but out of contract at his age seems unlikely.

The centerpiece of any deal is going to involve Ben Keays. Pony up.

id be pretty flat if we lost ah chee but the coaches pretty clearly want to try get mclachlan games. different types of players but both vying for a spot as half forwards.

people here won't like it but i reckon adelaide's future second is about as good as it will get for him out of contract.

Hard to argue. I’m guessing the club would preference picks in next year’s draft, as any this year will be used matching Annable.

Annable will be the first or second club tied player bid on. The pick isn't slipping that far, as it'll be gone.

Personally I'm happy to get pick 41 in tis draft and a future second round pick.

I feel the most likely scenario is we'll take the best of your third rounders and your future second round pick.

Our "problem" is that we're already loaded with third rounders, currently holding 4, and we might need to consolidate those picks, as I'm not sure how many draft picks we can take to the draft.

So your first round pick, with us sending a couple of third round picks back, is definitely more appealing.

We have at least two academy kids in next years draft, depending on what rules are brought in. At this stage I'd have them both as borderline first round talent.
