We have at least two academy kids in next years draft, depending on what rules are brought in. At this stage I'd have them both as borderline first round talent.
you need to go defend yourself in the oscar allen thread on the trading board. there are too many west coast trolls besmirching your name.

And more hysterics because it’s not a Victorian club benefitting.

I find OA a really weird example to use for this conversation. If he was that desperate to leave to win a flag, get his injured body right, among other things, wouldn't he have found a way to Brisbane or another contender via trade in a universe where FA wasn't a thing? Draper leaving to go to Adelaide or here, over Essendon, is a much better example.

I stand alone against those clowns in defence of our Briztoon.

Ok, we need some one to do a proper ins and outs list, to sort of work out how many draft picks we'll need for this years draft.

We currently hold our first round pick and four third round picks. Gut feel says that's at least one too many picks to take in to this draft.

Draft Picks
16 - Our own first round pick.
37 - West Coast's third round pick
40 - Essendon's third round pick (Melbourne sent us Essendon's third rounder, not theirs)
46 - Bulldogs third round pick. (if Bulldogs finish 9th)
49 - Gold Coast's third round pick. (if Gold Coast finish 6th)

Ins
Oscar Allen
Dan Annable

Day, Craven (?), Dev, Ah Chee (likely), Starce (maybe)

That still leaves quite a few uncontracted players.

Remaining OOC players this season are:
Senior list:
  • Ah Chee (traded)
  • Day (retires)
  • Gardiner (stays/traded)
  • McCarthy (will re-sign)
  • Robertson (traded)
  • Starc (stays/traded)
  • Tunstill (?)
Rookies:
  • Beecken (?)
  • Craven (?)
  • Joyce (?)
  • Lester (re-sign/retire)
  • McKenna (?)
Big O retiring will create another list spot to be filled with a new ruck. Brain will need a list spot/one of our draft picks.

Nah, I'm good. Those two have been sooking for 3 and 2 years respectively. Can't take constructive criticism when they post something stupid on their board.

The club has already confirmed McCarthy has been offered a one year contract.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Brain comes onto the primary list and McCarthy moves to the rookie list to satisfy the vagaries of list management rules.
I'm assuming we'll upgrade two rookies to the senior list, as that allows us to take two "extra" picks to the draft, without having to actually draft anyone with those picks.

To move McCarthy to the rookie list, we would have to delist him, and announce we plan to rookie list him post draft. I very much doubt another club would draft him in the national draft.

If you believe the hype around the draft it's not a great year to have a lot of turnover.
I'd be happy if the plan is to use some of those third rounders to try and shake a couple of fringe players loose at other clubs provided we have Annable sorted.

Outs IMO >
Ah Chee- Traded.
Day- Retire.
Robertson- Traded/delisted.
Craven- Delisted.

Possible outs >
McKenna- Retire, if not will get another year.
McInerney- Retire, if injury is as bad as the scuttlebutt suggests.

Is this possible for outs. Package of Starc, Dev, Tunstill, current pick 16, and 40 to West Coast, for their picks 12, 19 and a future 2nd. If they trade for Starc, they get a band 1 pick, currently 2, and the they are asking for an additional compensation pick from the AFL. West Coast then get 4 first round picks, plus 3 new players in their best 22.

Gardiner and pick 19 to the Bulldogs for pick 11 and a future 2nd.

Ah Chee and 40 to Adelaide for pick 18

Big O to retire

Mc Kenna to Ireland

Craven delisted

Ins. Allen, Draper, Annable, Waller, Prindable, Geesu, with the draft swaps could be enough to chase another KP (Harry McKay) and I’d love to know there’s a chance to gazump Collingwood to get Silvagni.

Picks. 11, 12, 18, 37, 46, 47, 61, 70, plus 2 X 2nd round futures.

Picking up West Coast and Essendon 3rd round picks has worked out well with their ladder positions.

West Coast won’t be giving up their first round picks. Not even in a player plus pick swap.

They can just take Robertson as a delisted free agent, and honestly he’ll be lucky to get a SSP spot with them.

Starcevich for a second round pick is probably the trade. They hold their own and Hawthorns.
Gardiner and pick 19 to the Bulldogs for pick 11 and a future 2nd.
I’ve never been a big fan of Gardiner, but not a chance am I trading him. If he’s out of contract, then he’s an unrestricted free agent and can sign where he likes.

I think Cal is worth Adelaide's first rounder to be honest. It'll likely be in the 20s after bids (maybe even mid 20s), and Cal is quite comfortably a best 22 player in the reigning premiership team.

Worth first round in our eyes.
May not get that from them though.

So has anything been reported directly from Oscar Allen or his manager about his request to exercise his RFA and go to Brisbane or is it a case of a salty leak from the Eagles? It is highly unusual for this information to go public, where in our case, our season is still live. In terms of the usual protocol, interesting that nothing has been said in response by the Lions either.

It's been the worst kept secret for a year now.

We rarely say anything regarding our list for next season while the current one is still underway.

It's an off-season issue for us. I believe West Coast just leaked it as Oscar would not have willingly advertised wanting to come to us when our season is still underway. It gives West Coast a good foundation to ramp up chitchats with HQ on compo etc. Just annoying for us to put up with this during finals.

Fox Footy website has an update on Draper, names us as strong favourites, given they play tomorrow probably have exit interviews on Friday. But with both us and the crows contending unless he's staying continued silence would indicate he's leaving the hanger.

FWIW i'd heard he has a podcast looked it up but not listened and won't unless he becomes a Lion, but it's called '200 plus' a reference to height as they like to talk about the big guys.

Reports on foxsports this morning that > "Foxfooty.com.au understands the Lions are the strong frontrunners in the three-horse race for Draper."

We are going to have some bloody good players missing a senior 23 spot in 2026, slow morning so I'll have a go at our 2026 side with the whole list healthy, I'm assuming Ah Chee leaves, Starcevich stays and no sub with 5 on the bench.

Keidean Coleman, Harris Andrews, Darcy Wilmot.
Noah Answerth, Jack Payne, Brandon Starcevich.

Sam Draper, Lachie Neale, Josh Dunkley.
Hugh McCluggage, Will Ashcroft, Jarrod Berry.

Charlie Cameron, Oscar Allen, Zac Bailey.
Cam Rayner, Logan Morris, Kai Lohmann.

Bench- Jaspa Fletcher(wing/back/fwd/mid), Bruce Reville(wing/back/fwd), Dayne Zorko(fwd/back), Ryan Lester(back), Levi Ashcroft(mid).
______________________
Leaves some seriously good players out albeit Payne/Answerth probably not available till at least a month or so into the H&A season... Lincoln McCarthy, Sam Marshall, Daniel Annable, Tom Doedee, Darcy Fort, Eric Hipwood all depth.

With 5 on the bench I'm expecting Fages to play 2 rucks so Fort/Big O to probably play, who the hell do you leave out though? Maybe Reville but I think he has seriously good potential, elite kick and evasion. With new ruck rules likely to come in I think you could get by with having bit part rucks to back up Draper eg Allen, Dunkley. I like Hippy for his unrewarded running but who the hell goes out for him?
