What does it mean when it is put like this?
I read it as a kid who grew up white in a typical white family but recently found out that his great great grandmother was aboriginal.
It means it's BS

Stuart Cochrane (Dougie's father) was reported to have said that it was only recently that he had become aware that he had aboriginal heritage.

I believe there are 3 criteria. Have indigenous heritage. Identify as indigenous. And be accepted as indigenous by the indigenous community

Clearly the family has ties to the port and would like Dougie to stay in SA and play there. Stuart played around 50 games each for both north and port. So not enough for either to be considered FS. His brother is also on ports list currently.

Stuart went about providing the all necessary information to submit to the AFL to consider acknowledging the families indigenous heritage. The AFL has included since Dougie in their indigenous academy

I don't doubt the offer. Outside of Merrett, who on that Bombers list is getting paid anything of note. They'd be having more trouble than the Saints in paying the cap.
Well, I heard it explained on one of the footy shows this week how Draper became a free agent, not restricted but free so Essendon cant match an offer and he is free to leave. Apparently Draper is not in their top 10 paid players so after 7 years he is free to go. Seemed like they knew all about it.

Aside from shitposting about list management I don't take a keen interest in the mechanics, but it seems like a ballsup by the mighty Bombers

Again, still, [revolving door].

What ever show Jimmy Bartel is on it was interesting hearing him talk about salaries of players and how players on the highest salaries are now paid on 'potential' and the great players in our game with say 10 years at the top are much less. Might be true.

The bit I found interesting was him talking about the premiership squad he was in and how players all took a little less to play together and be successful. Basically he was saying sacrifice for for the team is on the field and off the field.

I just wonder if the Lions are in this place? Starc and Ah Chee will probably go, that is just the evolution of the team but I wonder if our top guys are taking a little less for each other, to play finals every year, to win a premiership, to have a great coach and a great club. I just wonder what the extras are worth in a pay cut 10% or something. Fallacy or fiction, I wonder. Does a premiership medallion hanging around your neck at the end of your career mean $100k less, $200k less what is acceptable. Can you then monetise "premiership player' after your retire and make up the difference.

I haven't got the patience or mathematical ability to do it but it would be great to see one of our knowledgeable posters guesstimate and itemize every player and their salaries on our list and fit them into the salary cap...$17,800,000?

I tried asking ChatGPT, the screen just went blue. I think I broke it.

Being paid on potential does make sense. The figures floated around for Harley Reid, Mac Andrews huge contract, NWM (although he is already elite) etc.

Pretty sure our 3-pete squad did the same as well and took a pay cut to stay together.
Guys deserve to be paid their worth but I think most would take 10%-20% less if it went 90% of the way to guaranteeing success.

I don’t think current players are all about the team. A small minority are, but I think most only have self interest at heart. Our three-peat squad all sacrificed money but this group I don’t think is about it. Only takes one, which appears to be Starcevich and now others will follow. Seems one premiership is enough for most players these days and if they don’t back it up the following year start thinking me me me.

I think the most surprising thing is that it is Starcevich ready to be the selfish one and likely doesn’t rate being part of a dynasty because he’ll obviously be destitute if he doesn’t leave.

It's a job not a local footy club.

Far far from it.

How am I wrong if Starc pisses off?
You’re wrong on so many parts of that post. Seems as though you’re very stuck on he and other players being selfish.

Being financially aware/smart and making a decision that’s best for your future doesn’t equal selfish.
