Lachie OOC next year, however if he wanted to go this year and become to the Eagles what Luke Hodge was for us the Lions would not stand in his way IMO... I do think it is a possibility and the chances would improve if we manage to get a 2nd flag this year.

This is how I see it. We take Lachie’s hefty contract and add another year and probably an assistant coaching deal at the end of it. No idea what your cap looks like but must be reasonably full and with a midfield of Dunkley, Hugh, Berry, Ashcrofti x2, Annable with Marshall, Bailey and Rayner playing bursts through there it’s still the best depth on the AFL.

Of course clubs are well within their right to not even entertain a trade - if they’ve got the spine to do it. Curious as to why clubs don’t stand firm more often.

The player can choose to sit out the season (would be interesting to see if this is a breach of contract 🤔), but other than that the player has no right to a trade.

The great man blinked:

"James Aish will either be playing at the Lions or he'll be going into the draft, he won't be traded, that I can guarantee you," Brisbane football director Leigh Matthews said on Adelaide radio station FiveAA.

Get on board the Riddler train or GET OFF THE GRASS

If he's so adamant, it's us or bust you have to think there has been some sort of medical assessment done by us to entertain getting involved. This has been OK'd by the club I guess, their silence is deafening.

Club is not going to say jack shit about any potential incoming player while we're still playing.

Wouldn't Lachie want another tilt at the flag? West Coast are a long way back, and once Lachie leaves, he would have to resign himself to now winning another flag given his age and the club he's joining. Hodge left a Hawthorn team that was well past their best, so it was easier for him.

Surely would chose Freo at his age.

True, though I meant in the shutting down of rumors kind of way. I guess it's not up to us to hose down the dumpster fire that Essendon are right now

If I’m Lachie:
“Do I stay at the Lions with the chance to get another flag, or take a little more money to head back to Perth a year or two early to play for a side that won a single game of football in 2025…”

Easy choice. He’s been paid handsomely so doesn’t need to leave. He’s not about to be pushed out so doesn’t need to leave. Pretty sure winning another premiership and guiding Brisbane’s group of young guns >>>> guiding a bunch of kids at West Coast.

All completely reasonable, but Insuspect it’s more what Mrs Neale’s needs are rather than Lachie’s. Looks more like you’ll be needing that cap room too:

When Hodgy came to the Lions we had a team ready to compete in finals and Fagan wanted some infield leadership in the tight situations. The Eagles are so horribly far away from finals, a long long way away. Lachie would be a signing to lift show what professionalism is, he is know for hard training and continually trying to improve his game. Around the next couple of drafts for the eagles they will have a few young midfields that could benefit from Lachie's benchmarks.

I cant see the Eagles going any better next year, maybe win 1 or 2 more but still in the bottom 2 or 3. Rachel is from south australia but his wife is in Perth and he is very dedicated to her and the sacrifices she made when he come to Brissy. BUT I can't see Lachie going over there to be beaten up every week, with the Lions the opposition taggers are already moving to McCluggage and others and Lachie will have increasingly more freedom to enjoy his footy. I just cant see why he would go unless they make him a 'hail mary' offer of something ridiculous for 2 years but Reid is already getting that and picks 1 at 2 this year will be want top ups coming.

Mrs Neale has “sacrificed” a lot for Lachie already. Now he in a team that’s seriously in the frame to win flag(s) i suspect it’s highly unlikely she’s going to pull the pin. He has the rest of his life to make it up to her.

Meanwhile, I’ll back in our list management team to balance the salary cap without needing to push out one of the best midfielders in the league.

Pretty sure she now has family living in Brisbane .

Hey fellas. A possible return to WA for Lachie Neale and his family still doing the rounds here. Anyone got some solid mail on this? Presumably to bring in Oscar with possibly Draper and Ridley would require a fair amount of cap space and with your young midfield guns perhaps Neale shakes loose?

Please do Australia a favour and beat Geelong.
Ridley’s contract was front loaded, salary cap is not the issue for us trying to trade for him.

Would not be surprised if Neale is kept on in some sort of coaching capacity.

Mans hands are elite.

I think it would be more of Mrs.Neale's call at this stage. If West Coast are willing to pay a truckload (which they can) for a couple of years and then step into coaching, Neale would happily take it. Great retirement package.

Draper is understood to be leaning towards the Lions ahead of a final decision in coming weeks.

Essendon’s terrible injury run was a major factor in Draper’s decision as well as the direction of the club which is currently in the midst of a full-on rebuild.

Draper is expected to earn in the vicinity of $4.2 – $4.5 million for at least five years at his new club, or about $850,000 a season on a deal similar to Luke Jackson at Fremantle.

Why the hell are we talking about Lachie Neale being traded again?

Why the hell are we talking about Lachie Neale being traded again?
Because we can, just filling in time until Friday night, not the most outrageous suggestion I have seen on big footy today.

Don't think our discussion on here no matter how inane or how knowledgeable we are will have much affect on what happens in the trade period.

Of course he has a right to be traded, WTF are you on about, as the club has rights if they wish to move on contracted players. It's called trade period for a reason.

No one's actively pushing for trading him.
It's a rumour West Coast poster said is doing rounds over there, we're just extrapolating it.

I have always thought Lachie would return to Fremantle, this year, or next year, especially after having a flag. It would not surprise me at all if he goes back to Fremantle. It will happen eventually.

A contracted player cannot be traded without the players consent.
Similarly a club can refuse to trade a contracted player. This is where the statements about holding players to their contract comes from.

Observe Carlton’s current situation:
  • Charlie Curnow asked to be traded. Voss said that they won’t listen to trade offers and Curnow will be at Carlton next year.
  • Elijah Hollands has been told to explore his options for a trade because they don’t want him anymore. He is contracted next year so could come back to Carlton, or they could pay him out and terminate his contract.
