Said it elsewhere but you have to put it in context from his POV. He didn't know how much time was left in the game.

So potentially being 1 point behind and needing a goal to go ahead vs being a goal behind and needing a goal to get a draw and extra time

If you don't know there's 9 seconds left, you take option A. Same reason the crowd cheered when it was over turned.
My boy just won a junior premiership, they knew when there was a minute left. Not saying he knew there was exactly nine seconds left, but surely everyone was informed as Swallow prepared to take his kick just how little time was left. Should have withdrawn his appeal.

ARC would have picked it up either way, they were screwed regardless

They have the bench holding up the time cards so at a minimum it would’ve been the 30 second warning

I’m not disagreeing with any of that, but on the same token I don’t blame the lad if he chooses to leave based on that reality.

Had we offered him a deal (that he didn’t deserve based on form) in March or April I’d expect to a high degree of certainty he’d have re-signed.

Too long we’ve made the soft list management decisions, if being a bit tighter means we lose a 50/50 from time to time okay with that.

That theory only flies if he had a deal in front of him from the Blues before that 4 week spell in the seniors. Otherwise both offers stem from him showing something in those 4 weeks.

They review every goal before a bounce anyway - didn't need anyone to "appeal". Still would (or should) have been overturned.

I bet Chesser turns out to be a good player.
I reckon he will be a serviceable player who periodically breaks down.

Would have been handy to retain him and annoyed that we put so much work into him for no profit, but not devastated by the move.

Here's hoping we dont just "good bloke" him into Carlton and can get something out of em that translates into an experienced player of decent quality.

Genuinely so disappointed in Chesser, waited 4 years for the dud to show something and he gives us a couple exciting games and then requests a trade.

Another first round pick completely burnt.
Except its not burnt, its depreciated, but we are going to get a return for him. 2 months ago it looked like being completely burnt.

Good luck to Chesser, life is short, do whatever the hell you want to do.
I’d rather have Hamish Davis on the wing anyway, he’s gong to be a gun that kid and a WA one too.
Agree. I think he showed more in those last few games than Chesser and won't be going anywhere being a WA boy.

Fairly disappointing, I don't think the club will play it so easy with Carlton though, they'll value him as a first round pick who has shown good signs after injuries.

I wonder what Harley is thinking now. Chesser was one of his close mates and seems like he had a great relationship with Liam Ryan as well.
Both have requested trades.

You have faith in our trading department to get anything remotely done where we get fair value?

I don’t have enough faith in them to find a toilet in a bathroom.

Would probably just end up in the corner shitting themselves.

Genuinely hope you’re right but I have my doubts

It’s difficult to keep faith in the club at the moment

We obviously don't want more picks in this draft for Chesser. Need to be something that upgrades a second rounder into a first rounder this year or Carlton's F2. I think that that is a reasonable ask. They are getting somebody who has had nearly 50 games and 4 years of development invested into him. You know what you are getting and he is ready to play straight away, vrs a draft pick where you don't know what you are getting and are likely 2 - 3 years away from the bloke being best 22 for you. But i think their first offer will be a 3rd rounder in this years draft.

Look that's fair but at some point we need to find some balls.

Harley is also not a child so I think he can cope with some of his mates moving clubs.

I know, but really we should hold our ground. It's not like we are underpaying him and we've looked after him. Not too dissimilar to to Ryan O'Keefe situation apart from the quality difference in player and years served. Surely Chess would be reasonable enough to understand we will try facilitate a trade but we have made an investment in him and we aren't going to take unders for him
