I like Ridley, but come on.. Draper, Allen and Ridley? All 3 of these players have had terrible injury problems. It's fine taking a risk on 1 or maybe 2, but this could blow up in our face big time. And given our injury list over the last 2 seasons, i don't think we're as good on the injury front as some may believe.

Hard to really comment without having more information. If the medical staff and club believes they can bring them in and they’ve still got something to offer then I’ll back them in. Ridley and Allen are both genuine A graders when fit and Draper is a massive list need.

Bombers and Eagles haven’t exactly been well ran clubs recently either

Look, we love maintaining a backlog of players in our injury ward. If Coleman, Doedee and Payne exit early in the year and Answerth leaves the ward by the middle of year - then we need backfills to cover those spots.

These 3 makes perfect sense so we can keep our medicos on their toes. Can't be paying them for doing nothing.

Allen:
I was not that keen as injury prone. But with Hipwood now out i agree he is needed to help out Morris.
However, we are still just adding another injury prone player to our list.

Draper:
I would just stick to Fort in 2026 and put out feelers for 2027. Maybe Oscar comes good.
Draper could be great or just another player on our list that is injury prone.
I hope he chooses the Crows.

Ridley:
Don't see how we fit him in.
Also, just another injury prone player that has averaged just 10 games the last 2 seasons.

Brisbane Record of Trading in Injury Prone Players.
I don't think it is as good as people keep saying
Essendon have often mentioned Jo Daniher was already rehabilitated and over his issues prior to coming to Lions.

The problem is, Ridley isn't going to walk through our door like Draper and Allen would. We would have to pay quite a bit for him, and that only heightens the risk.

I think we can save Draper coin and see if Max Heath would like to join us from Saints.

I know Demons have an offer for him but he's a Lions fan growing up - I believe we can still get him if keen.

He's past the growing phase, looks filled out and ready to go in the 1 or 2 games I saw him this year.

I think your failure list is too long. I don't think it's fair to include draftees or cat-B rookies that hardly played - these players are speculative and cost us nothing. Not every selection is going to work out and these players have little/no exposed form. You didn't include all our successful draftees in the success list.
  • Deividas Uosis
  • Kalin Lane
  • Mitchell Cox
  • Darcy Craven
  • James Madden (though he could be arguable, he was on the list for 6 years).

  • Grant Burchall: I'd also argue wasn't a failure. He played 39 games across 2 seasons. He didn't set the world on fire, but he provided coverage while other young backmen developed. He gets measured a bit harshly for me - he was never going to be another Luke Hodge.
  • Darrah Joyce - I think he was only ever brought in a depth and cost us nothing. He did a job last year when needed.
  • Marcus Adams - I'll give you this one reluctantly. He was unfortunately struck down by concussion, but we did get his body right and he was well on his way to success before the concussion.

What i got out of my list above.

(1)-If you pay up a reasonable price for a good player that's not injury prone to start with you more likely get rewarded
(2)- International players have been a bust for us. Pierce Hanley came through the rookie draft in 2007
(3)- Suns gave us two gems basically for nothing 2 years running.

It is not a failure list at all. There is also no success list. It is all the players we traded in since 2017.
The list was to see the number of players brought into the Lions with a history of injuries along with every other player traded in since 2017

Are the Lions on the right or wrong side of bringing in players with a history of injuries.
I would say McCarthy is our only real success story. Adams possibly as concussion pushed him to retire.

This is all about my reluctance to bring in 3 injury prone players. I have come around to one for urgent needs being Allen.

The list is not intended to review our national draft picks as none are included.

My list was looking at trades made for existing AFL players since 2017 and getting in any other mature players.

There could be some young players on the international picks.
I did not check their ages. It was mainly to show they are mostly a bust.

Not only that but the myth keeps players seeking us out, OK maybe we don't get the Riddler this year but there's nothing wrong with multiple players saying they want to come here. I just adds to the zeitgeist that is the Lions.

So if we get an end of first rounder from West Coast for Starce and a second rounder for Ah Chee. Surely we can find a way to get Ridley and points for Annable. Even if we lose next year's first

A second rounder for Ah Chee? Wow a premiership hero's value has dropped like a stone, surely early second at least?
