Anyone thinking we would get a first round pick for Ah Chee has their Lions goggles on.

He’s 28 next month, and has played the whole season injured.

I’d say he’s worth a good second round pick.

Currently Adelaide don’t have the draft capital in this draft for Ah Chee.

Where is Adelaide's #16 likely to be after bids come through? If it's early-mid 20's, that feels about right for Cal.

What they have now doesn’t really matter. They’ll trade players & picks before the end of trade period and give us something that the club is happy with. Supporters on our side will think it’s unders.
In the end if we get pick(s) that help us achieve another trade/draft target then that’s all we need.

You'd only be happy with a future 2nd if bidding is still available in the draft and We death ride Adelaide
I don’t do death rides (unless it’s potentially a top 5 pick).

Honestly don’t really care about picks this year or next year.

I’ll be happy if we walk away with Ridley and enough points to cover Annable and potentially our kids in next year’s draft.

I don’t have a “value” for Ridley, as I don’t know how serious his injury was or how his recovery is going.

It is my understanding that Jordan Ridley is training pretty well.

I think we clearly want a second intercept defender. We have Andrews and nobody else who can do it consistently

If Andrews needs to lock down or is locked down we would like someone else to intercept
I don't think we should be looking at players with still 4 years at another club, but I guess that is modern footy. I stand to be corrected, but prior to Paynes injury mid June, I think he was leading or close to, regarding intercept marks. Subject to returning to full fitness, I think he could be more than just a last line 'lockdown' defender. But I can see your point, and no doubt that is why we took a punt on Doedee

Can always use the future 2 to get in points this year in another trade. Also could use something late this year to get in someone like Budarick if we lose Starce.

Cal's a good player, but he's 28. Not worth anything earlier than mid 20s. I know adelaide's first rounder might end up round there but seems unlikely we could haggle them down to it.

Payne is likely to miss half the year Doodee didn't work out Rids makes perfect sense

Normally yes but Adelaide in their window Adelaide will get someone who can put them right in that next season .
Rankine Rachele and Cal Thifthorp and Fog is possible the best best forward line in the AFL and that's without them not playing easily teams

For me there's 2 types of intercept defenders; there are ones who beat their opponents and win the footy like Payne, Lester and Wilmot and then there are others that help out teammates and drop off their opponents to help out and thats more like Andrews, Doedee and Ridley

And I think we're looking for someone in that second bracket in case Andrews isnt there or Andrews has to play more of a negating role as he may be best suited to because of his height

This year we have seen some pretty fantastic offers getting tossed around. Some players will more than double their income, others with substantial increases over 20%. In business and sport there are always opportunities offered, money verse benefits, medical verse future and so on. There are money orientated people, people with loyalty, team orientated, personal orientated.

I'm not judging, people are just motivated differently. I'm sure many people spend long hours deliberating, most people are risk adverse so where is the % of cash barrier that tips them over. I think about the decisions I've made in business, I've gone for 18% more then I took a 10% backwards step another time and moved sidewards for better opportunities to move up later.

As supporters we want players to be loyal, but when we look at ourselves what is the % we accept to move?

So far, it seems, trades are from lower clubs to other lower clubs and they are about $ or from lower clubs to better performing clubs which is about benefits and opportunity. The better performing clubs I know are still locked in the finals but rumours about top players going to lower performing clubs are pretty light on, that may change. Starc and Ah Chee have gained the 'benefits' they have GF medals now so can go the other way, maybe more for $ now.

What I'm interested in is the benefits V cash conundrum. Will we see a player go from a 'contender' trade back to a 're-builder'? indications are probably not so the 'benefits' are worth something.

There are probably some but can anyone think of a player whom went from a 'contender' without first winning a Grand Final back to a re-builder, say from a top 4 to 6 team playing deep into finals, but not yet won the big one, back to a bottom 4 to 6 team that might be describe as long suffering?

They are very different players, but I think Ridley would be a bigger addition to our side than Starce would be a loss. It's marginal, but Ridley is absolutely an AA level defender at his best. Would be enormous if we could pick him up.

Going to be very, very interesting to see what happens to player wages if the new FoxSports owners aren't as keen on niche sports at the arse-end of the world as what we'd hope they'd be.
Why else would they have bought a sports channel in the arse-end of the world who's prime asset is the local footy league? If Kayo/Fox dropped AFL then Kayo/Fox would be pretty much worthless. People would drop their subscriptions on the spot.

If we can get a first for starce and another first for Ah Chee, I wonder if we would use that to lure Ridley or go straight into the draft?
If Lester plays next year then anything we get for Starce and Ah Chee I'd put that aside for next year draft or trade.

Spread out the list age profile a bit. We have players like Beecken, Brain waiting to play that half back role. Don't need an expensive, injured player like Ridley.

AFLW would be in trouble, reports are AFL losing $50m per year. Not sure if the ratings and or crowd attendances have improved this season.

So is Starce, he just doesn't play a role that wins AA selections.
At his best Starce not only locks down his opponent but beats them in the contest and intercepts.

Having said that, I do understand that Starce could be one concussion away from being forced to medically retire so if disaster struck we could lose him regardless.

From Ralphy:

AGONISING CHOICE LOOMS OVER LION

Brisbane’s Brandon Starcevich faces a Chad Warner-style decision to play for two more years chasing flags at the Lions or return home to play with the Eagles on a long-term deal.

Starcevich would ideally like to return home to play in WA at some stage in his career given his close family ties.

Like Warner he would give up that chance for silverware if he left for rebuilding West Coast.

So having decided that third suitor Essendon is not in the race he faces an extremely challenging decision.

He would sign a long-term deal at West Coast but likely only a two-year deal as a restricted free agent.

If he did find his way to West Coast the most likely outcome would be through a trade, not free agency.

West Coast will secure the No. 2 overall draft pick as free agency compensation when Allen leaves, but under the net gain rule it would be diluted if they secured a free agent.

They have asked the AFL under their priority pick submission if they could bring another free agent in without diluting that compo but no one believes that is likely to fly.

So handing up a later pick for Starcevich to make his move a trade keeps the No. 2 overall pick.

Brisbane would get a pick rather than nothing, because having secured Sam Draper and Oscar Allen they would get nothing for the departing Starcevich anyway.
