Cool, but that's not even close to likely

What... How is it not likely?

Durrsma 1 (Ess)
Sharp 2 (wce)
CDT 3 (rich)
Lindsay 4 (rich)
Cumming 5 (WCE)
Schubert 6 (WCE)

Could absolutely happen. Only way I'd pony up Durrsma to bombers is to enable something like this.

Cals last open pool ranking had Sharp at 6, Cumming at 12 and Schubert at 13.

It sounds like a short-sighted move to take a decent pick out of next years draft. Better to box up later picks this year that we're unlikely to use.

I haven't heard much about Robey or Taylor, sounds like quite a big risk to take both with two proposed top 10 picks?
Not really a risk at all, Robey will go top 10 now I think, has a lot of upside.

Taylor is very highly rated by a lot of the clubs in the top 10, he’s an exceptional defender with very good skills, given how poor our key defensive stocks are, I’d be surprised if we don’t look at him.

Bit of a discussion here about Jack Steele and how he might be a good fit for West Coast. It’s only an opinion rather than any actual intel though so grain of salt areas

I wouldn’t be paying a R1 pick for him like they’ve suggested but if the Neale stuff becomes the pipe dream I think it probably is, then Steele would be worth considering. If we do get given the priority pick to use in a trade we’ve asked for, then that could perhaps be used for Steele

Or we incorporate Steele in the trade for Ryan with some steak knives being sent to the Saints

Good strong body in the midfield to help Harley and co as well as being a positive presence in the locker room

Love this idea, if we get that end of 1st compo that must be traded he would be a perfect target. Only 29, had a down year - but would bring similar leadership and standards as a Neale-type.

All this talk of Neale...

Reminds of Failmantle when they were down the bottom. Threads full of trades and destination club and all that.

No one came.

So get a grip, you're all living in fantasy land.

Robey I think will be taken by Richmond or Essendon if they keep their picks. I don’t want him so that would be good from that standpoint if we get Port’s pick but he’s exactly the type of player that would appeal to our recruiters.

Taylor is an exceptional player. HBF and KPF are the last places we need to reinforce and if Ginbey stays in defence as a KPD, I think it’s unlikely we take another player his size despite his attributes.

Trade pick 2 to Essendon along with F2 for 5 and 8 (Hawks 1st for Merrett)

Trade Hawks first + 19 for Port’s first from Gold Coast

Pick 1: Willem Duursma
Pick 5: Dyson Sharp or Josh Lindsay
Pick 6: Sullivan Robey
Pick 8: Xavier Taylor

Get the best player in the draft with the most upside, either the best inside midfielder or distributor, a bolter with huge upside and the best non club tied key defender in the draft.

Also would be fine not splitting pick 2 and just taking CDT or Sharp there. Would probably prefer Essendon’s F1 over 5 or 8 as well, but I doubt they part with that.

We can’t take 4 midfielders though, so I think one of Taylor or CDT are a must - I like Schubert, but not the profile we need. Marsh would be a consideration too as a point of difference forward.
We are not taking Robey at 6!
Lindsay won't be there at 5
Taylor isn't a need

Glad you're not our list manager.

1 duursma
5 sharp
6 cumming
8 sheubert or farrow

Wonder if there's the possibility of a three way trade. Butler, HH, Carlton first to us, pick 1 or 2 to essendon, merrett to hawks.

How's the value on that? Not familiar enough with the hawks players to be sure on it.
I'd rather we trade Newton, Bazzo, Barnett, Jack Williams and Cole to Richmond for picks 3 and 4

I love that in the past 7 days we've landed on Chad Warner, Jed Walter, Alex Davies, Lachie Neale, and Jack Steele are joining the club.

Can't wait for none of this to eventuate and we end up with Judd McVee or god forbid another Owies-type.

What are these serious posts and what have you done with Dark Sharks?

Have no idea how we balance our defence if Starcevich and Mcvee were to come in. It would completely lopside our list.

If the club thinks they can turn Hough and Ginbey into full time top tier midfielders I think they will be very sorely mistaken.

McVee is young but is almost like Duggan from wish imo. Starcevich is a great defender but has shown almost nothing in the midfield and is by no means quick.

Cole on the outer for one. Maric pushed up the ground.

I must say I find reading this thread and other trade news rather depressing.
( I know someone will say then don’t read it).

I find it hard to see how we can get out of this hole that we are in.

The AFL in its wisdom, not deliberately, has created a two tier competition where the ones that have are getting stronger and stronger and the weak teams like us are getting weaker and weaker.

It’s hard to see how any team is going to transition from one tier to the other.

Mate...what are you talking about...both Collingwood and Geelong are hosting Prelims at the G...it's great for footy. :smallfooty:
Just as it will be next year when it likely happens again.

;)

Ginbey - HEdwards - Starcevich
McVee - ? - Hough
Bench Bo Allan - Duggan

Baker forward
McCarthy mid?

Get the right CHB and it’s a very good back line imo

Time to circle back and start getting excited about Dev's leadership again I reckon.

Dev is by far the most likely option out of all these fanciful ones.

I do miss the Bont speculation though, probably the least likely trade unless someone spots a Daicos in Perth and runs with it 🙃

Have we even been properly linked to McVee? All the articles and discussion has been about him waiting for the new coach and if he were to leave it would be to another Victorian club given his partner plays for Carlton. She is also from SA so that would be the other option.

EAGLES CHASE FRINGE HAWK

West Coast is keeping a keen interest in Hawks pressure forward Sam Butler as Henry Hustwaite’s frustration builds in his lack of senior opportunities.

Butler has returned from a badly broken leg to play four senior games this year as he kicked a huge goal after a key tackle against Greater Western Sydney.

But while he came into the side to help stop the Orange Tsunami with his pressure skills he has racked it up at VFL level with a 42-possession game and most recently 34 possessions and 10 clearances against Southport.

West Coast are likely to lose first-round pick Campbell Chesser to Carlton, so Butler would appeal as a mid-forward or just a genuine mid.

Hustwaite is contracted for 2026 but keen to find a new home where he can play AFL footy, subbed off early by the Hawks in the last two of his four total games this year.

Despite speculation Carlton is not interested so he will need to keep looking.

In the VFL final just gone he had 37 possessions, 11 clearances and five centre clearances and he has worked hard on his spread from contest to be a more versatile player.

AGONISING CHOICE LOOMS OVER LION

Brisbane’s Brandon Starcevich faces a Chad Warner-style decision to play for two more years chasing flags at the Lions or return home to play with the Eagles on a long-term deal.

Starcevich would ideally like to return home to play in WA at some stage in his career given his close family ties.

Like Warner he would give up that chance for silverware if he left for rebuilding West Coast.

So having decided that third suitor Essendon is not in the race he faces an extremely challenging decision.

He would sign a long-term deal at West Coast but likely only a two-year deal as a restricted free agent.

If he did find his way to West Coast the most likely outcome would be through a trade, not free agency.

West Coast will secure the No. 2 overall draft pick as free agency compensation when Allen leaves, but under the net gain rule it would be diluted if they secured a free agent.

They have asked the AFL under their priority pick submission if they could bring another free agent in without diluting that compo but no one believes that is likely to fly.

So handing up a later pick for Starcevich to make his move a trade keeps the No. 2 overall pick.

Brisbane would get a pick rather than nothing, because having secured Sam Draper and Oscar Allen they would get nothing for the departing Starcevich anyway.

Those are some strong VFL stats

Nope. I think she plays at the Dees as well.

Everything suggests Freo if he returned back to WA as well.

With Chesser likely leaving if we draft Duursma I'd be starting him on the wing with some midfield minutes. He has the tools for it.
I had the same thought yesterday, it gives Duursma a direct and tangible easy pathway in

we managed to transition pretty effectively from the top tier to the bottom tier. with the exception of geelong all teams have their time at the bottom
