Just a couple of things on Cal. I've seen comments here that he's been in and out of the side. He's played 114 games in just on 6 years so when you take into account the covid year , the injury misses including a couple of concussions ,one significant, you could hardly say he's been in and out of the side. He's been in a large majority of the time.

He's a good ,versatile player who's had injury issues this year . His form in the first several games was excellent. I doubt we get to the GF last year without him.

I'm not against offloading him if he's happy to go , just sayin' he's highly regarded internally and Adelaide want him.

I think that can often be illusory as clubs do a lot of work behind the scenes.

I don't really believe it when a player requests a trade to a particularly club and we hear that that club is supposedly surprised or unaware.
Yep, Dunkley came pretty out of nowhere at the end of that season as well. Ridley’s a great player and fits a need going forward imo, only question is cost and injuries

While I agree with your view - the reason I'm not crash hot on Ridley is it feels a bit like player initiated and came out of nowhere. If Lions were after him, I feel we would do a longer courtship / due diligence like what happened with Oscar Allen and even Draper (which started around mid-season once we had question marks over Big O and Henry was also having a bad injury run).

Ridley seems more like he wants to get out and ideally come to us - it didn't feel like we've put much legwork into it at all to be honest. On that note, I'd rather see if our injury ward returns like Doedee, Coleman can take over the spots next year. With Lester potentially continuing, I don't see the pressing need for Ridley on decent coin.

Completely agree with Neale, Daniher and Dunkley points - they were all a need or necessity at some point and we managed to get premium talent to fill those spots. Not sure if Ridley is worth a premium chase right now but if he wants to come, I don't mind us exploring it further.
I dont agree with this, do you really think Ridley woke up 1 morning and thought I want to go to brisbane, managers know what clubs are looking for, and thats a position of need for us especially with Payne out for a period of time also

This could not be more wrong

We were into him back in 2020 and IIRC were keen to draft him

Hmm I must've completely missed this one. Did he go one pick before or something?

Also, haven’t seen us say we were interested in Silvagni, but I reckon he’s a far superior player to Ridley.

When fit, Ridley is a clearly superior player to Silvagni. All-Australian discussion quality.

Agreed; I haven’t seen the Lions say they’re interested but Ridley or his manager clearly has.

I just don’t see it as a position of desperate need compared to some other positions and if anything like McStay, increase Starc’s deal as opposed to another injury riddled player.
silvagni is terrible if his name was smith no one would even talk about him

On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is 'what is AFL?', and 10 is I watch every minute these players play, I am totally devoted to following their progress in AFL.

How qualified do you think you are to make that statement?

I don't think a pick in the 20s in a weak draft is a significant trade premium. Nobody's saying he's a top 10 pick. Not even top 20.

If you're best 22 in a premiership side, I think the lowest value you could just about have would be in the late 20s.
Except we wouldn't be using the pick to draft a player in the mid 20's. We'd be using it for it's points value to secure Annable with out a future deficit. And I'd rather Adelaide's future second round pick, plus their pick 41 in this years draft.

All fair points…

…the only thing I’d say is that we might have been into him for a while and the timing was now right for him to raise the prospect with Essendon…but I’m just speculating, I have no idea tbh

A couple of things I've heard on various podcasts.

Drapers partner was central to him choosing Brisbane, as she apparently has strong links here.

Ripley isn't leaving Essendon (think this was from Ralph on Midweek Tackle).

Its hard to gauge the trade value of Ah Chee. He would be a highly respected player internally and at Adelaide given their pursuit of him. His goals/shots/tackles/disposals have all been up for the past 2 years and he is finally excelling at his role. I expect Ah Chee to be at this level for the next 3-4 years. His output these last 2 years have been better than Cameron. I would expect we would make Adelaide pay up for him. I wouldnt expect some late pick 40s type deal to get him done. Adelaide can't threaten the post season draft or anything else for Ah Chee. If the shoe were on the other foot and we were trying to get Ben Keays I assume we would be similarly over a barrel.

On the other hand I think we are in a weak position with Starc. If he chooses to get to Eagles then we may end up with a nothing pick given they could go to the PSD and pick him up for nothing. I hope Starc picks the 2 year Lions option. I would much rather Starc in the backline for 2 years than what we are likely to get from the Eagles this year.

The Neale bullen comp is the best and most recent. I think it’s bang on his value. If you’re picking hairs you could maybe say Cal has a slight edge given his 2024 finals series. Ability to perform at that level in finals is very highly regarded.

Wouldn’t believe anything coming out of Ralphy’s mouth, man is a walking agenda

I don't believe it..........

Restricted Free Agents can’t go through the PSD. If matched, they must be traded for or enter the national draft.

Neal-Bullen had two years left on his contract though, which balances up the slight edge Cal has.

Well that makes things more interesting. We are on more even footing than I thought. I'd still rather Starc for 2 more years than picks for our academy selection.

I agree that that value looks spot on. How do Adelaide get such a pick given their position, its hard to tell. The suggestion of a late second this and next year is not very appetizing either.

I still don't understand this move from Adelaide. They have Ben Keays who has had a similar output as a HFF compared to Ah Chee. They also have Rankin and Rachele they can play as small forwards. Cal has been tried in all sorts of positions and his best output has been HFF. To me it appears Ah Chee is taking Keays role in the team. Keays doesnt strike me as a good midfield option either. He would just become depth. I personally don't see Ah Chee moving the needle at Adelaide for a premiership compared to what they already have. I could definitely understand if Eagles or Freo had a major interest in Ah Chee and were willing to pay him. I don't get this move from Adelaide. I'm interested to see how this pans out or will Ah Chee become a whipping boy like McStay.

That’s a shame about Ripley, but what about Ridley?

I’ll have to give a real view here.

Ben Keays is an extremely limited footballer. Has gotten everything out of himself and has been great for that Crows side. But at some point you need some finer details taken care of to elevate your list to the next level and he could be one who is in and out of the side as Adelaide progresses its build.
