we cant just milk our backline dry everytime a young player shows an ounce of talent

a really good distributor out of defence is a pretty critical role

unless the feeling on here is we'd rather just leave it to Duggan?
Id rather draft some kid with good footskills and leave them there for a couple of years, even if theyre a mid long term (like Sheezel or Daicos)

Bo gets forgotten about because he had quite a forgettable first season.

Wasn't Chesser levels of nightmare first year, but the way he was managed by the club was absurdly bad. As we've discussed ad nauseam.

His own form was mid at best, add in some injuries/illness and I don't think this season would've done wonders for his confidence.

Would be huge if he showed up for pre season a lot fitter/bigger and had some real BSD energy about him pushing for a round 1 spot.

If we had pick 8 connected to carltank sure.

Pick 1 will be Duursma and I’ll imagine 2 is going to another club for a 1st and future 1st.

If not CDT, which if you think about it we are going to be a hard team to match up on with our size.
If we wanted him enough, surely that shouldn't stop us.
If we keep pick 2 and we think he suits us better than other prospects, then who cares where's he's rated.
Otherwise we will split if we can get a bonus pick out of it.

Other than incoming players I’m wondering how Bo Allan will turn out. He’s become like the forgotten man other than brief mentions here and there.
I like the look of him; big, fast, tough and looks to have a raking kick tho his disposal has been questioned.
Throw him in with HEd Hough Ginbey Macarthy and Grego and looks real good.
The Pick alone makes him very important to us.
People that watched him in WAFL what’s the verdict!
Brockman is the other.
He’s got everything except consistency. Is he just gunna be one of those “if onlys” or can Mini bring out the best in him for longer coz make no mistake this kid has got the goods.

Agreed on Allan

Looked good the minimal chances he had. Takes it on and generally used it pretty well imo

Been a bit unfairly judged because of Murphy Reid's year

to be fair to Bo hes had a horror run with illness and injury this year, im keen to hold off any judgment until i see him get a good run at it
He is what he is a later 1st round pick after all the top rated players in the draft were taken . He has his flaws but if you want the higher end talent you need higher picks

Yet the best 1st year player was taken after him

I see Allan ending up playing a similar role to Mitch Robinson at Brisbane, offering contested ball winning and defensive coverage/tackling from the wing position.

Regardless of his role, he should offer a lot in transition handball chains with his pace and ability to absorb contact. I was impressed with his hands in the games he played at senior level.

He should also be good at generating turnovers both in the air and with tackling.

His traits really fit the Mini gameplan like a glove.

Duursma has separated himself as the clear #1 and looks a relatively safe bet as a 200 gamer (albeit a utility type for now).

Why are we so keen to trade that away?

We may bid (the 3x northern guys all deserve an early bid), but I think we hold the pick and use it on him.

Bo was big bodied in u18's. Not so at this level in year 1.

When he thickens up and builds his core, legs (no missing calf days either) he will show everyone why we jumped to pick him.

Where his best position will be is the unknown.

Haven't followed the nga progress all that closely. What's the current pecking order of evans, walley, williams and banfield. Have we gone the classic move of hiding them a little with the evans and walley injuries?

Sullivan Robey has that real Bont feel to it. (Bont was a real late riser from memory too)

Late riser. Seems to have an elite mindset from what I can find.
Huge late growth physically. Seems to have a very high ceiling.

I love players that have clean hands and ability to find space. Has good burst too.

Think I have a new favourite.

Duursma & Robey looming large ..

Essendon really are stepping on their own dick. Merrett badly wants to go. And they may be really pissed at him and want to get rid of him. But allowing people (including the coach) to go out in the media and bag or attack him and more or less say he won't be allowed back because his team mates are disgusted with him is just dumb. They are boxing themselves in. They are allowing whoever they end negotiating with him to trade him to that they do not have the option of walking away and retaining him. They will just have to take whatever is offered within reason even if it is only 50% of what he is worth. There is a time for keeping your mouth shut.
He’s still contracted and a required player and similar to what Geelong did with Kelly ..Essendon should stand their ground as well and Merrett will have to be a professional and honour his contract ..It’s not good for the future of contracted players if top 8 clubs can feed off the best players of the lower half ..

All probably in that 40+ area. I doubt there is a consensus order.

Mine
Evans
Williams
Banfield
Walley

Koby Evans- I really like him but very limited draft year.
Charlie Banfield and Williams- are close. Charlie looks a wingman at afl level and Williams afl hff, apparently his gps numbers are very impressive.
Walley - really didn’t get going this year, plenty of X factor but very inconsistent but didn’t help he wasn’t in many winning sides.

After watching tonights game, i don't think we need Starcevich. Had no impact off half back at all. Didn't actually notice him at all.
Was he playing on Bailey Humphrey and shut him down ,,

Not a priority player for his positions but would you take another Hough? Yes. Best 23 and experienced

Could free Hough up to play the attacking hbf, which could free up McCarthy to play mid, or Baker could go to hff which is a pretty critical position in modern footy.

The dude just needs to be played as an on baller from now on and see if it sticks.

We aren’t going to get anything out of him getting 8-12 touches in the backline.

Clearly does his best work moving through traffic.

Can’t agree with this more. Needs to play in the guts next year from round one.
