Aleer literally had a deal agreed upon. Years, money etc. GWS and Saints had pretty much agreed upon a 2nd rounder. There's nothing close to what we had with Derksen. WE showed interest. We asked about him last year, but since King came onboard we shut it down immediately. Saints dropped the ball big time on this one.

Not sure wtf happened here? Did they run out of cash? Panic about not being able to move Steele/Marshall? Couldn't secure a 2nd rounder so had to shut it down? lol. Heard before on the radio that agents are already gobsmacked this happened.

Cash no here. Here no cash. Something along those lines. From what I ascertain, they were waiting for Steele to move or get traded so that they could pay for Aleer. A whole lot of panic set in at RSEA/ Moorabbin and now they had to go damage control.

Thankfully we were able to procure Max Heath from there.

I get the feeling that there's no possible world in which Oliver plays for Melbourne next year, so we're not really in a position to play hardball and GWS would be familiar with that. We're not going to do much better than the picks 35 or 37 they have at the moment, as well as being forced to pay a sizable chunk of his salary.
