We don’t need to be investing in B graders like Simpkin and Rowbottom especially when you have to trade for them.

Unless the player is absolutely elite trading should never happen. Target free agents and the draft simple as that.
Trading for elite players is not always a great idea. Have to give up plenty, so circumstances need to be ideal. Paying for an elite player at their peak is a risk. You're giving up so much that they have to work out. Injury or failure to maintain their form at a new club and the cost starts to become questionable.

Free agents always come at elevated cost and need to be weighed up against value. It's not a great source to rely on.

Trading for need (or the draft) is the best way to bring in players. Ideally players that become elite while not being so at trade time. eg. Hill, Cameron, Elliott, Crisp.

Yikes, have to think 77 won't be used.

We are going to have to trade out our 2026 second , or 2027 second to get an additional 2025 second round pick to be able to match a mcarthy bid.

Don't think mcarthy will last until 39 or however high our picks get moved up after bid matching .

If he gets a bid on in late 20's, then we will need an additional second rounder.

The swans currently have pick 32.

For starters we can do a buller trade that potentially looks like

Buller, pick 32 for 39, and our 2026 F2,
Man, if you don’t understand the system then don’t post about it. If he gets a late 20’s bid we shouldn’t need to trade anything in, our picks will come in and be worth a lot more after all the early FS/Academy bids are matched.

Do you really want to start this here right now?

He has the whole off season to work out a stable structure for him and his family, so yes, barring any injury , I don't see why he wouldn't play all the games next year.
I was talking about JDG, history would say it’s unlikely that he plays more than half a year. At his best he is easily top 5 at the club.

I should have clarified the comment was about JDG and not Hill

But that would be overs, wouldn’t it? I rate Miers very highly, consistently top 15 in the comp for SIs. Why would you give that and your three best draft picks for three years for 29yo Curnow?

I bet the next offer is 3 picks+Jhye Clark or O Henry!
I don’t think it’s a straight 3 1sts plus Miers, but Edmund this morning was discussing it and said that Carlton want Miers (or words to that effect) and if he’s added it’ll get done. Getting Curnow isn’t enough for Geelong though they need the trade win on the way through.

FWIW it’s not that far off if you have Geelong in the top 4 in 26 and 27. I hate using it, but Draft Guru’s DVI has it at pick 3 + Miers.

24 hours since I last viewed this thread and 50 pages have been added.

Can one of you kind folks sum up if anything noteworthy actually happened?

I did see the Checkers trade. Not sure what the general consensus is on that.
Think there's consensus that we did well with the Miho trade; we re-signed Will Hayes & Roan Steele, which most people seem good with; BUT, any mention of Simpkin or Rowbottom has mostly three camps:
1) no, friggin' way
2) yes, if it's not for top picks
3) let's wait & see before getting carried away
Meanwhile, TD really wants Leppa to sort out something with Sydney...

This is the trade thread. Those of us who have been at work all day would like to catch up on the news.

Not read your dribble.

That's a terrible trade. Basically giving them a second rounder for Buller.

And no thanks to trading our F2 just to match McCarthy. Defeats the purpose of getting an academy player at a discount. Might as well go best available if we weren't even going to match Mcguane.

And JDG has been discussed in the media as a trade target hence the discussion about him. But really insightful post from you. Well done

Rememeber - There are a heap of academy picks and father sons ahead of McCarthy, atleast 6-7. When clubs match these bids, our picks are likely to come in atleast 10-12 picks.

Graham Wright while at Collingwood hired Fly
Graham Wright while at Collingwood rejected Voss
Graham Wright quit Collingwood and went to the arch rival in Carlton
Carlton's coach is Michael Voss
Michael Voss is not a good coach
Michael Voss' contract ends in 2026
Fly's contact ends in 2026
Graham Wright will not renew Michael Voss' contract

How is the idea that Wright will at the very least try to poach Fly some out there and wild idea?

So yeah, call it giving myself a high five all you like, doesn't make it illogical
You're making something out of nothing.

can’t wait to read the hit job article from Ralph RE checkers.
Mihocek thinking he can play beyond the next 2 years as well as if he’s got fat in his career left to go deep past mid 30s.

We handled this well —I’m glad the club is concerned about its list demographic and profile and understands we need to transition it slowly.

A player at his age thinking like he will be around forever isn’t in our planning I’m afraid
