Why would Richmond take Robey? They don't need his type for their midfield as they already have Smilie and Lalor. They're more likely to be chasing Grjl or Farrow or even CDT.
Why not have two ?
Smillie is a bit different to Lalor and Robey anyway

From an outside perspective I’d be looking at Richmond’s needs as guys like Duursma, CDT, Grlj, Lindsay, Farrow, O. Taylor, Dovaston, NHH, Phillipou, Barker, etc. HBF carry and ball use, wing, or small forward

I think CDT could be elite as a back or forward let alone as ruck who's another mid.

I wouldn't trade 2 picks for him but you're hoping he slips and calling his name out 100% (would do it with the melbourne pick in case any monster offers come for him).

Given Essendons been chasing SFs all offseason I could see them going early on Dovaston.

Also worth noting that Essendon will likely do a points trade up with either GCS or Carlton. Add to that a potential Merrett pick and that’s 4 of the top 12/13 players in the draft.

Easy enough to take a flier on an explosive forward at 5/6 and use one of the later picks for a 2nd midfielder.

Ie say the top 4 is Dursma CDT Robey Sharp. 5. Cumming 6 Dovaston 9 Farrow 10 Dalton is a pretty interesting draft haul.

Liam Ryan at the very start of the offseason
Fair enough. Would be a mistake imo. With Sweid, Huss, Dawish, Bewick coming in over the next few seasons in addition to Kako and Unwin, we’d be setting ourselves up for failure like 2020 again when we took 4 KPP.

Sweid could end up a mid, Kako was getting some cbas at the end of the season and I wouldn’t pencil in Bewick as just a sf, high chance he starts out off half back before he bulks up to play mid.

Having too many sfs isn’t really an issue if they can play other positions, back in the day fantasia and tippa were able to play half back too.

Melbourne will probably lock onto dovaston because of Pickett being in the middle more…

I actually really love the Brisbane/Richmond model of play with a stack of small forwards but feel other areas need to be addressed as well. Half backs, large mids, third talls, even KPD given the health of ours.

for me I think big mids are Essendons biggest need and I’d be doing all I could to get 1 at the top of this draft

Can’t see Richmond taking both Robey and Sharpe at 3/4 (non academy picks) as they need outside run. Probable they will trade one of them get a couple of bites at an outside type further down the board.
I see Melbourne making efforts to get one of their picks with what they will receive for Trac.

ive often thought they go CDT + Grjl/Lindsay to be honest

I reckon Lindsay will drift out a bit. Maybe past 15

Grlj is exactly what they need and he’s getting close to that 4-10 range now after the combine, where before he was more 7-15

Wouldn’t be surprised if they go Taylor and grlj if eagles go duursma and cdt.

I think we’re in a great spot getting two of Taylor, robey, cumming, sharp, grlj with a Schubert or dovaston in play as well if we trade merrett

commented elsewhere that Sam, after his impressive testing, would not surprise if we took him. I wouldn't even be disappointed if we took him, if CDT, Duursma, Robey are all off the board.

I feel like we're lucked out with our positions and in just in the right spot for the open range instead of being just outside it like we usually are.

1-2 Duursma/CDT
3-6 Taylor/Robey/Grlj/Cumming/Sharp
9 Potentially 1 of the above if they slip, Schubert, Dovaston, Lindsay are available or even take a chance on an Oscar Taylor here or maybe trade back a few picks to gain a second if we go that route (won't be at pick 21 if we still have it)

I wouldn't give up 2 of Taylor/Robey/Grlj/Cumming/Sharp for Duursma, we need a lot of young talent added to our side... the more young quality players we can add to Caddy, Roberts, Kako the better and having 3-4 first rounders this year, 1-2 next year and Bewick the year after is the way to go.

Ah okay, good to know.

Reason I said it was it looks like he pulls his guiding hand away early so leaves a high room for error on the drop pretty consistently.

🤷‍♂️
No one really questioned Tsatas' kicking either...

So we were projected to have 3-4 top 10 picks (Draper comp and Merrett trade). Now that we only have two I hope we just hold them or at most trade up to 3/4 using one of our seconds.

Good runners, good competitors and good kicks need to be our priority.

we are not taking more than 5 picks this year and with the hawks offer we are at 9 picks for 2025, so we are wasting a lot if we take it without support. Whatever trade Hawks come up with has to either be backed by a third party pick swap that guarantees 4 x first rounders at a minimum in 2025 for ESS and F1 +F2 2026.
For me, GC have to be involved. They would want more points on balance for academy bids this year and have the picks to make this happen-
so GC give pick 7, 15/18 for ESS 21, 27,30 and (hawks 2nd, 31)
Hawks give 9, 31, F1, F2, Hawks get Merrett
ESS Give Merrett, 21, 27, 30 ESS get pick 7, 9, 15/18, Hawks F1, F2

ESS 2025 draft hand (pre bids) 4,5,7,9, 15/18, 83,101
ESS 2026 draft hand - 1st, 2nd, HAWKS F1, F2

ESS would be giving 2816 points to GC for 2756 or 2640 in return, but we get better track position this year.
Hustwaite would be a paperwaite and not worth the effort.

I think the Eagles would want ~4000 draft points for the 1st pick, so we'd have to then trade 7,9 and 15/18 for 1 and maybe 34.
Gives ESS 1, 4,5, 34, 83, 101
