Sure but if the relationship between Clarko and Jy, or Jy and other players has really deteriorated, we actually may need to sell up. The place may have black mould and Brady is doing his best to pretend it doesn't, not letting people look under the carpets, but he knows this place has to go.
We don’t need to do a thing, Jys on a good contract and needs to pull his head in if as you suggest he is being disruptive

There's a couple of big unknowns in this whole thing - how bad is the relationship between Jy and Clarko? And do senior players actually want him back at the club as the reality of this has sunk in?

If it's really bad with Clarko, one reason you'd still keep him instead of accepting potential unders is because Jy will need to play well in 2026 to attract interest this time next year. He might not talk to Clarko all year but it's in his interests to play well. The second reason would be to show other clubs that the club doesn't just cave in (anymore). Third would be to use the year to speak to multiple clubs and get the best deal in return, not rush a deal through with one club.

However, the reasons to accept unders (if it's really bad with Clarko) would be to avoid a disgruntled ex captain bringing the whole atmosphere/vibe down; or him undermining the new leaders, forming cliques, causing rifts etc.

If senior players don't want him at the club as sh!t has become increasingly real, Brady might not be in as strong a position as we think.
If the situation was that bad wouldn't he have just requested a trade straight away?

Let's be honest here, Collingwood would've been in his ear for minimum 12 months, none of this stuff happens overnight.
They rate him, but previously they could say but we don't have the assets to trade accept our offer North. Its all we have..

The landscape changed when the AFL wiped how many firsts a club could trade, now they are just sulking. He's not worth that much yada yada yada.
You’d assume that these things are a bit of time in the making, but I’m not sure that’s the case here.

It took a fair while for Collingwood to emerge as a destination (and think it was only after Oliver named GWS).
As I explained last week, Trotter played no part in this and in fact expressed dismay. This is all on Jy.
Thanks. Yep, I do recall you posting that and I reckon is the main reason it’s devolved into a bit of a shit show.

I think we can rule out the “the pies have been in his ear all year” theory then. That doesn’t happen without his manager knowing.

Just such poor judgement from Jy. This is literally the shit he pays his manager for.

To get someone to blink in any workplace, the ground work would've have to be done, they would've been seeking out whether he wants to leave, where they think he'd fit in etc. unless of course he's a petulant man child and has done this all on am whim?
So I'm still perplexed on how this all went down, which leaves me with the Trotter information, why is he expressing dismay at his clients actions, has Jy been working behind his back?

Simpkin stays and relinquishes the captaincy is fairly ideal.

I’ve done some fairly impressive mental gymnastics over the last two years justifying to myself why we couldn’t afford drop the captain.

Let him go if we get significant return.

If he stays he’s an important player that is subject to selection criteria befitting his peers.

He knows being contracted on such big $$ means he can't call the shots - sounds like he made it clear he wants to be traded though. The state of the relationships is unknown to most of us but it affects a lot.

If it wasn't his manager, then my guess is he had a shit show of an exit interview and vented to someone(s) who then fed it to the wrong person. Shit happens.

Don't think so. Pies realise they are short 1 in the middle while they evaluate their current crop, that is why they have been active with Oliver, Humphries, Jy and Rowbottom.

Chom can play forward. It will take some time to get him back in the swing of it and thats why throwing him back and forward in matches doesnt work and hasnt (although v Carl last year he was strong)

I like the idea of bringing on Leek to play the Chom role and move the big man forward.

Just a reminder of Chom forward here

If Collingwood didn't want him and wasn't prepared to explore a deal to get the picks they needs for him they would have already said so.

"Collingwood has explored its options regarding a recruitment of Jy Simpkin and based on due diligence will not be progressing with his recruitment"

He’s received some very very poor advice from his manager if Collingwood only had just a passing interest.

You don’t do this as a Captain of a football club, pretty much kill your reputation at that club, unless there’s rock solid (almost a commitment) to move.

If he’s just tested the waters like this, he and his management are absolute morons.

Their terms??? 😂
You don’t want him enough then?
Weird limbo to be in jy. One team wants you on the wing the other doesn’t want you that bad?
Well, that's what was put out by the Collingwood list management team, I don't buy it, IF they want Jy badly then it doesn't have to be two firsts but it would need to be attractive or else we simply wave our hand and say, "Go away", we can discuss the terms like grown men but this is where the pies are getting all mixed up, quite simply, "IT WILL BE ON OUR TERMS", take it or leave it! We hold the upper hand and they know it, that's why the reverse tactics are put out into the media, normal stuff going on here, they have the end of today and two more days to get something that appeals TO US or as another poster said, roll out with "Dads Army" again and see how far that gets you in finals.

B-b-but the market!

If the seller isn't obligated to sell, then the seller sets the market. Markets are two way.

Just noticed you own 1000 Rio Tinto shares. I would like to buy them for $5 each as I am not comfortable handing over anything greater. You'd better accept because you don't want to look silly.

It’s a bit of a win/win situation.

We get to give Sheezel the captaincy (**** off Nick..), don’t need to have an awkward transition or keep Simpkin in there for optics, we get to play him wherever we want moving forward with the, bad luck, you will do what your told, philosophy.

I think they seriously thought they would get a cheap mid-trade period salary cap kill. Probably made promises to Jy too. Bit of a self made crisis for them.
It's a bit funny. Drop the news that you're interested in him. Immediately launder Norths demands of 2x first rounders for a 2029 contracted club captain through the media to generate sympathy and pressure Brady.

When this doesn't work, leak a Zoom call with your head coach and a similar type midfielder from another rival club in Rowbottom after which you also tell the media unofficially that you're willing to pay less for Rowbottom than you would be for Simpkin.

Simultaneously your idiot gun 22yo midfielder accidentally goes overtly into the media scrum and says how much he loves Simpkin and how much he'll help. Softening your bargaining position.

The next day Rowbottom through his manager says thanks but no thanks, doing absolutely nothing to drop Simpkins price, while the willing media continues to do your dirty work and tell all in Sunbury that Simpkin - despite being in his mid 20s and contracted - is both worth significantly less than the club who holds his multi year contract is asking for, and also very useful for Collingwood at the same time.

Meanwhile for the first time in his career Brady is somehow doing everything right by doing nothing. Jy is swanning around in Barcelona with his waifish girlfriend having upset North and highly likely ****ed his captaincy and legacy at the club all without notifying his manager, and probably overinflating his value.

We've honest to God somehow come out winners by sitting on our hands
