David Zita on trading day: Sounds like picks 7/8 and maybe something a little extra on top gets it done. (Trac).

Gone from

“Pick 7 will be the cornerstone”
To
“Pick 7 and 17 will get it done”
To
“I think it’s pick 7 and maybe 8 with something coming back”
To
“Sounds like Pick 7/8 will be about it”
To
“Pick 7/8 with a little extra”

Interesting to see Carlton holding out until players are involved re Curnow and it getting results but us folding like a stack and taking picks on Trac.

While I’m still happy to take picks, it’s just an interesting contrast behind both clubs negotiating tactics.

Potentially Hayward/Florent and 2 first rounders (with one in 2026) vs Picks 11/12 (and supposedly us sending back some picks).

Two mid career players (one who spent most of the year in the VFL) on fairly big contracts plus two later first round picks than what we’re likely to get.

I mean, I’d much rather 7/8 and freeing up a huge amount of cap space.

I rate Hayward and Florent. Hayward would kick Melksham out of the 1s and Florent would replace Salem.

Agree, especially with them putting pick 15 on the market through the media.

Must be a sticking point.

The reporting has started at pick 7 as you said and gradually come in all the way to 7+8. Media is also refusing to even entertain Humphrey coming to us which is obviously the Suns messaging.

We should be aiming for 7, 8 and 15 in exchange for Trac, 24 and 28. GC might not go for it, but it gives them more points than 15 alone, and given how far those picks are going to blow out after the academy bids in a weak draft I think it's a fair price.

Agree. GC Spuds in main draft trading board have been losing there shit over me suggesting pick 15, despite it being a pick 20 in basically the shittest draft in history and that they won’t even actually be using the pick other than try scrape points together, or god forbid have to actually give up one of there 5 academy kids. (Who would likely end up just playing in the 2s anyway).

Bit rich when they’re getting JUH, Petracca and 2 top 5 kids already as it is, to be having a fit about maybe having to pass over a pick 40 academy kid who likely wont even crack the 1sts for years anyway.

Reckon Josh Lindsay and Oliver Greeves would be solid gets from 7/8 (11/12)

Greeves is an inside midfielder who can do the grunt work but has a pretty decent kick.

Lindsay is a skilled half-back that would make a good McVee replacement.

Hayward is pretty good but Florent is an awful kick and even worse decision maker in the backline. No competent side would play him inside defensive 50. Cox dropped him because Florent kept turning the ball over kicking across goals.
Salem is a snail, its embarrassing watching him run.

We need to get Cincotta in for free on the minimum.

Solid lad Greeves is. I would like Mitch Marsh also.

Melbourne gonna get 7+8+29 for Petracca. (probably be those pick swaps clubs love to use though)
THERE IS ZERO chance Gold Coast walk away from the deal for a player who has committed to them over an average pick in a weak draft.
Gold Coast have finals to win and cant walk away over a draft pick that means almost nothing to them.

I bet Melbourne offered Petracca and a pick/s for Humphrey and Gold Coast turned it down.

I reckon we just wait a bit longer.

From what I saw of Greeves and have read it sounds like he struggles to cover ground with concerns on his ability to do so at AFL level.

Lindsay looks good and agree on that front. Other option I’m keen on is Marsh who looks like he has good forward craft and some solid field kicking and can play the 3rd tall role / mid sized forward role which we are short on with Smith/Trac gone and Melksham almost cooked.

Lindsay/Marsh looked most natural talented ones around our mark for me. Grlj looks like Moraes running around like a rabbit with shit disposal and Dovaston seemed to lack the aerial capability I think good small forwards need (Elliot, Ryan, Weightman ect).

Is that just a fitness issue with Greeves? Could be resolved with a couple of pre-seasons. That's a hard thing to assess off highlight packages though.

Marsh just looks like another Weid/Jefferson type of key forward with okay skills and absolutely no physicality.

That’s it, keep holding Lamb!

Clips I saw him taking some good contested grabs as well as him getting up the ground and being involved in some nice link up play like Jezza does (or Fritsch used to do).

That said it was a small subset of footage so I’m probably jumping the gun.

Feels like we are scraping the barrel at pick 11.
