I would respect the league slightly more if they were upfront about the fact that they actually don't give a shit about issues affecting women and minorities.

'Virtue signalling' is thrown around as a right wing catch all term but in this case, the AFL have engaged in it to the letter. Blokes like Rankine have great cause to be aggrieved

This. My first thought was of the afl so much for caring for dv and the rights of women.

IMO I still don’t think he is that serious only a few months ago he was spotted my someone close to me allegedly acting sus with a second phone (I guess you can infer what I am trying to say)

He's been busted in at least two situations which sound like drug deals, or at least some form of crime. The 'selling my gf's car with my mate at a pub 2 hours from home and they abducted us for no reason' incident and then the lambo double parking with drugs in it or something incident. Every club knows that he is deeply in with the wrong cloud on top of all the other "drama" he has had.

He gets picked up by a VFL aligned club at best IMO. It's a degree of separation while allowing you the best view as to whether he's still a footballer and how he handles the life.

I think if anyone recruits him they will suffer a big backlash from their m'ship.

Honest opinion, don't think anyone will go near him.
The saint kilda saga should be a precedent. Copping backlash from their women's team to their members and their sponsors.

Depends on the club and their media power I reckon - all will be forgotten pretty quickly if its a big club and he performs

I hope he comes back, with his shit together and takes us to the cleaners, the melts on here will be well worth it.

Oh we aint 16th with JHF & TT in our side.

That's operating in a reality outside this one, though.

You could mayyyyybe argue that Geelong would've kept TT and kept him away indefinitely as the result of a troublesome finger injury. But personally, with women in two vital club positions, I doubt we'd have ever considered the same. I know you've got your reservations about one or both of those women.

But JHF was never going anywhere but straight home after 2022. He'd given up by mid-April. Our 2022 may've been the worst-performed season had by anyone since the last winless season; Fitzroy in the mid 60s, I believe.

Edit: no, it wasn't. Poor old 1996 Fitzroy played worse than we did. Still, they were in the throes of death. We weren't

Always going to happen, North needs to be adequately compensated by either the AFL or the club that picks him up. We bent over backwards and lost a lot of capital football, publicity and money wise trying to fix him at the behest of the AFL HQ. They ducking owe us and someone from the Board should demand compensation. If the AFL fart in our general direction we should sue the ducklings

We aren't getting shit, other than perhaps laughed at if he proves to be reformed and nails it.
