That alone can't explain is bafflingly large media profile. At least someone like Eddie McGuire had some charisma. This bloke looks like an extra from Revenge of the Nerds V.

Twomey is usually pretty good. He has close connections with clubs because he's inoffensive.

He's also a diehard Essendon supporter who is being drip-fed information from Essendon. Merrett is one of their greats and (possibly) their biggest loss since Paul Salmon. He'd be hurting.

But even this.

Yes it's a fantastic haul. But Suns also got 24 and 28 back for 7 and 8, and Melbourne's F2 for their F1.

The deal we've offered Merrett doesn't look as juicy because the second first rounder isn't guaranteed to be top 10, but we're not getting anything substantial back.
