He needed to be doing both. Putting out a message about Merrett being keen to leave and making awkward for him to return .. tick
putting Hawthorn under pressure that convincing him to come over and not getting in early to work on key aspects of the deal in time would be a bad look for them .. fail.

He only played it one way and that made it fail.

I think the decision was very brave not to trade Zac.
I would have.
If we do not draft exceptionally well and our club becomes more fractured because of the non trade I would expect Rosa, vozzo, welsh and Scott gone.

Yeah I don’t know what the play was… Or if the Hawks was waiting for Zach and TP to go public and confirm the request.

At first I thought the waiting was to see if the two clubs were close to a deal before announcing a trade request.

I guess we will never know for sure… The two clubs are business they’ll be fine.

Zach is still human with a young family so hopefully he is doing okay!

Trade period needs to be shorter, 5 days tops!
