This thread is becoming increasingly popular, and to keep some sort of order, we will have some….

Rules of engagement:

1. Bring valid news or links to Twitter posts from notable sources. Don’t post screenshots or “some bloke just said on SEN” or what some “trade whisperer” has posted on a Facebook page.

2. Ignore what other team boards are putting up as trade offers. Don’t quote or bring them here either.

3. Don’t post “buckle up” for the lols.

4. If you can’t say anything nice about Worpel or CJ, don’t say anything at all. The continued slaps and backhanders are just going to be deleted.

If you're talking about 2025, I'd agree with you - but he's not that far behind that he can't make the ground up.

To put it into perspective, I'd rate his chances of becoming a regular in 2026 far higher than I would've rated Gunston's chances of becoming our 2025 Peter Crimmins Medal winner at this time, prior to pre-season, in 2024.
He really is.
It was clear to him too, which is why he was looking to move on.

Was Jake Rogers delisted or just told to look at his options? He would be a really good pick up as a DFA if he has been.
A combination of him and one of Hollands or Phillips would add a bit of depth and assist with forward/mid rotations.

As far as I can tell Jake Rogers is still on the Suns list and is a contracted player. Hollands would be a great pick if he is delisted by Carlton although his off-field behaviour would have to change significantly for the better if he is afforded another opportunity.

We have 6 delisting, retirements and trades, we have 6 spots to fill in a weak draft. So we have to look outside the traditional drafts. We are short on mids. Is it worth getting Tom Mitchell as a delisted free agent for the short term?
I thought there were only 5?
Serong, Worpel, Frost, CJ & Breust.

one of the biggest shifts last year or two i reckon has been the need for inside mids to be capable of winning the ball on the inside and getting to the outside to dispose cleanly, rather than dump kick.

Newk and day are great at this but others like clarry can’t and aren’t as valuable. Unless oliver can add that to his game, he is best as a defensive mid and they are dime a dozen.

long way of saying that while out of favour depth mids from other clubs might look attractive, the game may have moved past them.
I'd say bont is elite at this and is the barometer for who your looking for

Yeah l thought that might be the case with Rogers but l wasn't sure if GC had announced all their delistings.

I was really big on Hollands and was hoping the Hawks had picked him up in the draft. Still has a ton of potential but still weighing up the risk factor and if it would be worth it.
Phillips was another one that the Hawks were into so they may have another look at him.

It's the area Rowell has improved upon in 2025.

He went from being a crash and bash mid to being able to contribute in transition.

It's also what Ward and Frenchy need to improve upon alot in 2026 is finding the easy ball. That comes from hard running but also putting yourself in good spots to be be an easy hit up for your teammates.

[PLAYERCARD]Will Setterfield[/PLAYERCARD], Jy Farrar and Tyler Sonsie all also uncontracted so far for next year.

I would suggest he gets another year but I know Sonsie was on our Box Hill list and is best mates with Croc - might be worth a shout but I figure we would have pretty keen insight into his development potential

I like Hobbs and Hollands.

Looking at Hobbs I wonder if he has muscled up a little bit too much like Worpel did a few years ago.

Given he is a touch slow would love to see him drop a couple of kgs and be in a professional environment to work on his untapped potential.

Hollands has potential if we can get his head right and on a contract with clauses and triggers he could be a real weapon for us.

Also looks like his fitness needs some work. Get all that sorted and we have our self a speedy midfielder / forward with X factor and goal kicking ability!

I reckon both men would be have something to prove. Low risk for high reward!

According to the Suns page there is a list squeeze at the moment. So someone worth considering may drop out ….

I reckon Phillips has Jono O’Rourke vibes about him, happy to he proven wrong

Eagles have been keeping an eye on him for most of the year

O’Rouke only played 21 games in 5 years.

Phillips 50 games in 5 years, another young guy I think may of got lost in the Roos system or a lack off!

I take your point but 21 games across our 3 peat era compared to 50 games in one of the worst teams ever assembled is not the same thing. I mainly meant in terms of a high end pick inside mid who couldn’t transfer skills to the big league

Only 12 games for the Hawks.

Yeah but Clarko I feel never rated Phillips hence why we ended up with DGB. An Roos have a shocking development program back then.

Phillips was off the board by our pick.

as long as they can get from the inside to the outside, or have that growth in them, then worth a look.

that’s where i get stuck with HH - great inside but you need to explode out and dispose cleanly in modern football. if he can’t, his best role is the nash defensive mid but i think he is 3rd in line behind finn right now.

titch and clarry are two who can’t play that way - one has been delisted the other traded for a half eaten mars bar and a packet of twisties.

Phillips was off the board by our pick.

Very true now you mention it. I still think we would have went McDonalds or DGB. But it’s something I can never confirm 100% … Just my IMO based on Clarko media interviews way back then.

Did North really delist Phillips?
It’s astonishing.

I remember his draft year everyone saying he was the safest pick of the whole crop. Sam Walsh style mid who didn’t do heaps of flashy stuff, just played tough and hard for 4 quarters every week. North is truly a footballing graveyard.
