Are we keeping Lual?
I expect all three to be cut for the draft, maybe Lual gets a train on spot or gets taken in the RD

That makes no sense.

Sure it does. Setterfield is one of our more important players when healthy.

Keeping him on LTI means he can come back around the midseason bye and be fresh for half a season. It also means that we don’t have to compete with other teams to pick him at the MSD like if we didn’t offer him a contract.

He wouldn’t be on much money and neither would the rookie doubling up on that list spot.

Yeah except it doesn't work that way. To pick up an SSP, he has to be out for the year

No.

Once someone is on the LTI they can't come back that season.

I wonder if Will is safe since Hobbs and Lual have been announced?

I doubt it. He may not be in the state or country.

Maybe they are waiting on the Cox decision....or seeing if they can fill the role setterfield plays before delisting him.

Also think he could be placed on LTI instead of delisted, still opening up a list spot
Not really sure why you would bother myself. Yes he is handy but he has a history of getting injured in some way.

What’s that got to do with it? If he hasn’t been offered a contract you can be told at anytime. The players are on leave.
Imagine you're overseas and get back on Saturday. You get a phone call from Matt Rosa on Monday saying "Sorry I interrupted your trip, but we're not offering you a contract".

It can wait a week or however long he's away (if that is the case, I'm not sure if it is). There's a human element to it.

And what about if he’s not back in Melbourne before October 31st?
The players who haven’t got contracts yet would know where they stand/ the situation from their exit meeting. It wouldn’t be some rude shock if they get delisted, most know that’s a likely outcome.

There are 3 list lodgement dates before the draft. If he's away they'll know when he gets back.

List Lodgement 2 is the last date for delistings, which is the one that falls between the two DFA windows that are before the draft. In the past it was approximately November 15th, but there's no info about it this year (and it's only mentioned once in the AFL Rules, under the free agency section 17.1(b)ii).

Most delistings would be done by October 31 though because that's the first list lodgement and at that point they have to be under the total list size and under the salary cap for the next year.
