Without getting involved in the argument - I think the concern is beyond the injuries, we were legitimately poor in certain fundamental aspects of our game.

imo I can compensate mentally for the injuries, it is expected that we would fall short in some games based on an absence of quality players, but our general play was so poor at times it appeared Cox was struggling to harness the groups strengths (which was mostly consistent for 3-4 years) - for me it was quite apparent that he would lose control of the group in terms of our method quite often throughout the season - there were losses where injuries were not an excuse in comparison with the opposition.

The reality is this group had synergy, our ball movement was consistently A grade prior to last year. Come round 1 Cox has to find that synergy again otherwise it will prove that he is struggling to handle it.
Many of the points you make here, whilst legitimate, also apply to the 2023 season.
I don't know how you could say our ball movement was consistently A grade prior to this year. When the team was on, it was a sight to behold, but even in 2024 we had some horrific games.

Back to Coxy, I really like the idea of him coaching the WA team. Makes for a much more discreet coffee conversation than the ones Sam Mitchell usually goes for.

Don’t think we have a lot of cap space to go after anyone next year but it never hurts to build a connection with a couple of potentially disgruntled players.

Given my aggressive comments re Cox have enraged some, I’ll take the temp down with some Cox support.
Obviously ive made it clear there’s a lot of expectation BUT, If he can get the team back into serious contention the credit should be due and significant.
He’s made some big calls, got his team, so really if Im being fair that’s prob what you want from your coach, be bold and make moves.
Now if it goes **** up…..given where we were in 2024… I’ll be disappointed….

I wonder how many Swans players will get a run in the WA team. Are any of our players in contention for the vic team. Brodie maybe

Warner immediately off the top of my head

I kind of guessed that thanks for pointing that one out. I can imagine the next time the match comes around Logan will be first picked in 2 years time or whenever it comes around again . Thats my hope and Sheldrick will also have a spot
Ahh sorry mis-read your post.

Tbh I hope none of the Swans players play. I know Papley was in the Vic team when they did the bushfire game a few years back

Hate this hole concept stuff the origin and cox coaching WA don't rate it at all rather him worrying about the swans pre season solely..
Just hope to god no one gets selected I don't wanna be risking anyone getting injured In january I'll be watching it with one eye open hoping warner doesn't bust a knee ..

Maybe he takes the other tack and surreptitiously suggests that Chad's knees, hips, eyesight and sense of smell are all completely cooked

Today’s presser:

Is it just me or is there a bit of tension between Dean Cox's statements about his priorities? At the start he is asked about the opportunity to Coach the WA Rep side:

Q [at the 0:40 mark]: Was there a thought about the Swans but this being too good an opportunity to say no to?

Cox: Yeah, I think the first thing I thought about was the passion I have for WA and being a proud West Australian that come to mind first. And then from there it was about the footy club that I'm currently coaching, and to make sure that I can get us as prepared as we possibly can.

Later on he says:

Cox [just after 9:00]: One thing I always said to the football club is I'll always put the football club first and that's something I'll always continue to do.

I can kind of find a way of reconciling them but also it does make me think he's got some split loyalties.

Anyway, I'm in favour of the club supporting him to follow his passion and make it fit with his work - just as the did when Colin O'Riordan wanted to play in his side's (Tipperary?) All Ireland Football Final. You have to make your workplace people want to come to and support your people to become all they can be.

Also, great to hear Cox unequivocally confirm Rampe and Lloyd will be at the club next season.
