The time has come here in hell to restart a tradition that has been culturally significant to generations of Australia's who had nothing but free to air television, Sunday night at the movies.

The premise: Each Sunday a poster who wants to be part of this will be selected on a rotational basis to select a movie for us to watch. We have a week to watch the movie if and when we can and discuss it in this thread. Preferably we would select a movie that is available on the free to air streaming services such as SBS on Demand, 7 Plus and so on. As most have Netflix or Prime so this is also an option.

There is no obligation, just an opportunity to perhaps have movies suggested to you you might never watch otherwise and do likewise for others. Also the opportunity to discuss the movie and you opinions on it. Anyone welcome to jump in at any time.

to find out what movie is on what streaming service check out: https://www.justwatch.com/

I feel like it’s almost another thread, but I have a selection of movies I love for reasons that are hard to explain - don’t always align with the ā€œbest films of all timeā€ lists.

Probably everyone does. Always feel a bit shy about confessing them because people go WTF and start talking about the genius of some other person
Do it PG, no haters in hell, well other than the obvious.

Sequel wasn't as good how Hollywood, they wouldn't let us use the horse so we bought out the syndicate
I never knew there was stuff out there about horse actors.

Good ol’ Cass Ole though. One of the greats, and I’ve always said that

I like Tootsie because Dustin Martin is so incredible in it.

All those cross-dressing comedies might be a bit controversial now? I still reckon he is amazing in it and there is a quiet Bill Murray scene near the beginning that always makes me laugh

Man with two brains is funny! I’d forgotten that one.

I have other random movies I really like. Thelma and Louise I reckon is one of your quintessential road trip character growing stories. Some people hate it though because they think it is an anti man propaganda piece or some shit.

I really love the Black Stallion (first half in particular) but that’s really dumb because you’re meant to be 12 to love it
TBH I think all my favourite films are random. Down By Law, The Kebab Connection, Tampopo, Love Me If You Dare, Le Grande Buffet, Wings of Desire... and then a bunch of horror films.

I’ve seen Le Grande Bouffe and it’s totally a favourite! I reckon the writer had a fever dream of the weirdest stuff, woke up and went let’s see if I can turn that selection of freak ideas into a movie. Its brilliant. I’ve seen it a bunch of times and I’m inspired to watch it again now.

On that basis, I’ll have to check out your other four because if they are half as mental then they are definitely good

Bonus points for spelling it right! Bouffe!

Tampopo is a very eccentric film, so not too dissimilar to La Grande Bouffe. Lots of food in it too!

Sorry all, been a chaotic month. Should all be settling down now, i'll get to watching the ones I've missed.
All good mate, we're going at about a movie every fortnight so you're not missing to many.

Sorry for tardiness.

My pick for this week is Aftersun. It's on SBS on demand, maybe other things too?
Not heard of this film so should be interesting.

Anyone seen this before?
