need to play the rayner tackles on Blicavs/Smith to him on repeat clockwork orange style all preseason, if he isnt getting his hands on the ball he still has the ability to make an impact in a game without the ball.

He has the skills, but does he have the heart?
He's got the ability, but he's afraid to put his head and body over the ball when it comes to the contest (one on one or otherwise). He's always reaching for the ball and is worked off it by a player with far more intent.

I can't remember these things you're talking about. Perhaps you have a link to a matchday report that supports his tagging in this manner.
Hard thing to find

This what i got, best i can do without watching the game again

And this.... a significant cba increase vs Blues, Crows and dogs

I think maybe was just a 1st half thing vs crows with dawson, he had 11 of his 16 cbas in the first half, consequently Dawson had just 9 disp - 1st half, 19 disp 2nd half

Dude's starting to cop some heat in the media, as part of the "How bad has Essendon's drafting been over the last 5 years" stories floating around
Those stories (which have been largely clickbait-y even if there’s an underlying kernel of truth) have largely been prompted by Hobbs’ delisting.

Which is ironic in a sense, because if Perkins tried as hard as Hobbs did for all his flaws, he’d be a much better player than he currently is.

It’s a bizarre thing that somehow Perkins is the only one of the top 19 players from that 2020 draft to crack 100 games thus far. Holmes at pick 20 has played one more game than Archie.

If we were winning games he would be getting away with things alot more. Rayner who plays in a similar position got 100 games gifted to him. With what i saw early days from Perkins i thought he had the ability to be the best player on our list.
He definitely has the talent but the desire is another story. Problem also shows a lack of development from our end.

He is copping it because he plays and he can't hide behind the 'has great potential' but 'perennially injured' cloak that a couple of others are behind.
Up to the half way mark of the year his numbers were good. An average of a goal a game in his role was OK for what he is.
He played a really good game vs Melbourne in SA. WCE game had good patches too.
But he tapered off badly...

Just another wasted pick in the conga line...
Surely we leave that crap drafting record behind. Please!

He tends to play an almost best on ground round 1 to show his potential and drops off after that.
He plays in a difficult position in a very average team.
The 2020 covid draft was russian roulette to get a top player from. Not many better options after our picks and even a few players before our pick have been delisted...Pick 3. Will Phillips Pick 6. Denver Barass and a few struggling in the system with attitude problems like Pick 1 Jamarra and Pick 7 Elijah Hollands

Was certain he was going to be a star early but just plays indecisive and ball watches.

I wonder if worth trialling in other spots hbf, wing or even as smaller full forward. Trialling is probsbly in the vfl though.

He should have been the stringer, de goey, rayner role but just doesn't have the aggression or footy iq to impose himself on games. Glimpses isn't enough.

If we get lucky and draft robey perkins is finished at ess.

It is between the ears with Perk.

Will be interesting how he goes under a new captain.
New captain going to increase his IQ ?
It is between the ears for sure, low footy IQ. Ball watcher. Slow reaction time to second and third phase of play.
Captain is not going to fix that.
I think his scope is simply above average half forward but in saying that his defensive reaction is poor.

Was thinking his attitude. He has shown he can be very good but often drops his head after mistakes. Almost as if he is trying too hard and more afraid of mistakes than just going at it hard.

Maybe a different leader who does not frown so much on the negatives.

He was good in his first season so you don't lose that ability.

Having said that he is surely on his last chance.

1st year was/is also heavily over rated

Avg 11 disp, 0.4 goals

For me hes not anywhere near as explosive as guys like Rayner/JDG and his ball handling is also horrendous

His 2 best assets now are his size and endurance and then 3rd probably penetration in his kicking

Not horrible stats for a first year player though but certainly hasn't progressed, in fact gone downhill.
