Second quarters are our designated quiet quarter. Garner and Riddell were off the field for a fair bit. Hopefully, we can go well this quarter with the breeze. That will allow Crocks to manage players in the last.
During our VFL/AFL/AFLW record equalling 23 game winning streak we have managed to win nearly 85% of the 92 quarters played.

Our most dominant quarter is the second, we have won 22 and lost only 1 (to Adelaide by 6pts in 2024 Qualifying Final) and have the unbelievable percentage of 552.31%.

Our worst quarter is the final quarter, but by then the game is won and we are generally managing players, but we are still dominating teams winning 18 and losing only 5 and have a percentage of 243,54%.

I think what these stats point out is this team is relentless, methodical and ruthless, they don't drop their intensity, they play just as hard in the fourth quarter as they do in the first and they don't give their opponents any chance to fightback. Not only do they want to beat their opponents, but they want to dismantle them, so when they play them again, they are in their heads for the week leading up to the game and half the battle has been won before the game has been played.

Just want to say; the AFLW thread is probably the best thread on the NMFC board.

For some reason, most of the nuffies that derail threads and cause problems seem to avoid the AFLW. Curious.

Their loss. Go North. Immortality awaits. Back to back.

We only have 7 players unsigned for next season, Boyd, Hetherington (not 100% certain of her contract status), Kearney, Shannon, Shierlaw, Slocombe and Stubs.

Kearney and Shierlaw are expected to retire, but if they do play on, I would think they would continue with us.
Shannon and Boyd have been regulars in our backline this season and I would hope we keep at least one (preferably both) of them, but that could depend on Sarah Wright and whether she returns next season.

Kearney was asked about the prospect of retirement or going on a couple of weeks ago and she said that she hasn't had that conversation with the club yet, she would like to keep playing but no decision made as of yet. I don't think the club wants a whole bunch to retire at the same time, that would be a lot harder to navigate through it.

This is the interesting part I was thinking about. EK and KS might finish their careers elsewhere!

What I see is that opposition teams have kick 63 goals against us, and we have kicked 62 in first quarters.

I stand corrected. What I should have said is that we don’t seem to dominate possession in the second quarters. However, we’re lethal on the rebound. Yesterday, we were well-beaten on the inside 50 front in the second quarter. However, we scored 4 goals.

Logically yes but living through 1998 changed that for me (I know statistically not as dominant etc). Not over until it's over and and all that.

I was a 14 year old passionate and smart-mouthed NMFC fan living in Adelaide.

The pain is still real.

Not winning this year would be a bigger surprise though, such is the sheer level of our AFLW dominance.

Managed to tune in and catch the last 1/4 at work.
Some sublime skills from the girls, Craven in particular - you just smile when the ball is in her hands. Lethal
She’s come along in leaps and bounds with her confidence and capacity to impact when the ball is hot too!
Skills have never been a problem, I’ve been critical of her in the past being scared of her own shadow, but credit where it is due she’s certainly got some continuity and confidence now and you can see that flair and skill rise.

Both Tess and the club should be commended for being able to identify her talent and manage her to the point where her development has blossomed

If We don't contract her and she wants to play on I would think that Emma Kearney will have probably 14 suitors for her services. Maybe more.

I actually think she is likely to just play on with us tbh. My bet is that being the most likely outcome.

I cannot see a world where Emma Kearney pulls on another AFLW guernsey, ever.

She bleeds Royal Blue and White.

Did you see here in the post match interview with Crocker? She nailed it, like she's been doing it since day one. She'll be the captain after Birch I reckon.

Yeah, Gemma is absolutely right about this. The league's still growing and an era of dominance like this was always on the table for the club that would push itself to grow faster than all the others. If we weren't doing this the rest of the league would be able to stay mediocre.

If the club see her as done and she does not see herself as done then there is the potential that would change. Especially as I believe a lot of clubs that would be wanting her services in that scenario.

I reckon that there would be clubs willing to give her two years.

however like I said I think she will play on with us next year despite a bunch of people trying to retire her in this thread, she is only 36 and has footy IQ that would allow her to continue in this league for some time yet.

If Kearney wants to play on for North Melbourne in 2026, she's earned the right to make that decision at this club for herself.

Did we learn nothing from the Boomer/Petrie/Firitto debacle? I sincerely hope we don't force anymore club greats into retirement.

That said... I won't be shocked at all if we win the flag again this year she decides to go out on the high of back-to-back premierships.

This is the interesting part I was thinking about. EK and KS might finish their careers elsewhere!

I would be surprised if they play elsewhere.

Our older players who are in the core team:
Sheerin 33
Riddell 29
Kearney 36
Garner 31
Rennie 31
Shierlaw 36
Bruton 29
Emma King 31
Wright 31

Bresnehan, Ferguson and Boyd are 28
Randall, Wall and Birch are 27
The rest are younger.

Lists are just VERY thin, we do not have any room to be going with a shotgun approach looking at a lot of long shot talent. We have done a great job getting the list to this point, unless we can keep getting great players to leave other clubs I think there is just too much talent that needs to be replaced within 3-5 years. Unless we can unearth a lot more like Bogue and O'Shea from ireland we are going to be a long way from the elite talent in the draft. We are just not going to be able to get the same calibre of talent in a short period of time, not without some exceptional trading.

Emma should have the final say on when she retires. She knows her limits and will not burden the team if she feels that she is not contributing to the success of the team and just become a passenger..

Well, I think the club also has a say.

Yeah - and it's the "team thinking" again. What's best for the team - another year of EK and KS, or room to bring in some of the sidelined players for an extended era of dominance? Imagine Slocombe, Mahony, Hetherington, Stubs, Boyd, AGM, and Martin with another year in them. Llike Craven - some of us here wanted her out - me included. But we stuck by her and we are much better for it.

Thats because they live by the saying " if you cant say anything nice then dont say anything at all" ;) :laughv1:

Don't underestimate our ability to develop players while they aren't getting a game. Exhibit A, Blaithin Bogue.
