Lol the new hawthorn HQ certainly shits all over our big shed austerity powah HQ.
They’ve got the luxury of placing it in the middle of ****ing nowhere, a lot of space to build. Granted it’s been about a decade since the one time I went to Dingley but I remember it being very very empty. Maybe that’s changed.

It is a pretty high-growth corridor now. It's surrounded by Dandenong, Cranbourne and Frankston, which are all pretty big now. That said, building a facility there is different from trying to build it near Glenferry Oval, which Port's development is a closer (though not perfect) analogy.

what's our beloved chairman up to these days?

oh, telling boomers to spend all their cash and not leave their kids a cent

the kids will be alright that the median house price is 1 million dollars and wages have stagnated, because they have super!

so glad we have this finger on the pulse finance genius representing us so well!!

Lol my mum is doing exactly this. Good on her, she hasnt had it easy. 4 kids and her husband was dead before the first turned 18.

Shes been travelling a ****tonne. It aint my money, she already put me through a good school etc. I didn't get to see her much though, because she was working so much as had to take on the family business in full without Dad to lead it.

Hasnt changed. Ten years ago, that land was cheap-as-chips ... Still is, relatively.

As an addendum, the Hawthorn FC facility is built on the former Din San landfill site, part of which you can see here. A huge open, waste-filled, area.

Agree. The most passionate Port fan I have ever meet
This is a good example of why he has to become Port's president. Is politically and state wide connected, has won over the AFL Commission and executives ( they want him on the commission one day) and a genuine footy head who understands footy club culture.

My old footy club Adelaide Uni has just put out this video to help recruit players for 2026 and as a general PR video. Mali doing this sort of video for Port when he is prez of the club, would have so much more gravitas than Koch, Cardone and co. trying to do something similar.

Koch has been telling people for a while that his time at the Club is reaching a conclusion

He's some seven years too late to grasp that, but I'll take it.

This post smacks of salt. If you want it, get a good job to pay for it. My parents are boomers. Happily retired, Ive told them to leave me nothing and enjoy the one last shot they have at life.

No it doesn't.
A comeback showing the level of intelligence I expected.

The meaning of 'a good job' required to fund a comfortable lifestyle has changed dramatically over the last 50 years. Average prices have increased at a significantly higher rate than average income. Right now the average house price is more than 10 times the average income in most major cities. 50 years ago it was around 4 or 5 times. In other words, a millennial or Gen Z has to achieve more than twice as much relative to their peers to achieve the same financial position as a boomer. Meanwhile the boomers who are still here are doing their absolute best to support and implement policies which pull the rug from under those beneath them.

None of this is my opinion, this is all objective facts and statistics. Ignoring that reality is the definition of ignorance.

Most of the wealth Boomers will be passing on will be the value of their property. He didn't say anything against that.

All Koch was saying in the article is don't pass on your money while you are alive. Seems like fair advice. Enjoy your retirement while your health allows it.

The medium price for a house in Perth is now just over the million dollar mark.
That makes the dream of owning a home for young people just that, a dream.
The average wage is around 104,000 a year but when you factor in part time workers that drops to just over 80,000 a year.
On that sort of money you’re looking more at buying a tent than a house unless the oldies kark it and you cash in.

I dont disagree with most of that. My point was if you can't afford whatever lifestyle you're chasing you shouldn't be relying on handouts from anyone, especially your parents, who were fortunate enough to build themselves a comfortable retirement. Adjust.

Get a good job was probably a poor choice of words. But whining about not having what boomers have is a waste of energy. Do something about it if it affects you that much, the younger generation are supposed to be the future, get moving.

As for my intelligence, you have no idea who I am, so your expectation of me is like water off a ducks back 😁

Is this a problem that needs addressing?
Is there a growing trend of boomers (who's consumer spending has gone nothing but up throughout the cost of living crisis, while genz and Millennials trended heavily down) saving money so they can give it to their kids?
