Pepa Randall announcing her retirement. Thanks for your tremendous efforts in orange, Pepa, and all the very best for your next step!

The GIANTS would like to congratulate one of its longest-serving and most valued players on a remarkable career and for her invaluable contributions to the club as Pepa Randall announces her retirement from AFLW.

One of the most capped GIANTS in AFLW history, Randall finishes her career with 62 games across eight seasons in orange and charcoal.

Joining the club in 2017 following a trade with the Demons, Randall went on to become an integral part of the club’s AFLW program and one of the side’s most reliable performers as a key pillar in defence. A recurring member of the club’s AFLW leadership group, Randall’s experience, talent, and wisdom have been invaluable to the GIANTS across the last eight seasons.

Extremely athletic and brilliant one-on-one, Randall quickly became one of the competition’s best defenders and in 2018 was named in the AFLW’s All-Australian squad. Ever-reliable down back, Randall was frequently able to nullify some of the league’s best forwards while also using her pace and agility to turn defence into attack with her dash and dare.

Randall ends her playing career leaving a huge legacy at the GIANTS, with her determination, her passion for the game and for her teammates, and her consistency on the field making her one of the side’s most important players in the club’s history. Randall’s retirement comes after a brilliant 2024 season in which she finished inside the top 10 of the Gabrielle Trainor Medal following a starring campaign in the backline.

Randall announced her retirement to the playing group on Wednesday afternoon. GIANTS Executive General Manager of AFLW and Football Operations, Alison Zell, congratulated Randall on her stellar career. “As one of the most capped GIANTS in our AFLW program, Pepa will leave a strong legacy as a fierce competitor and someone who always had the back of her teammates. The club once again thanks Pepa for her dedication and the impact she’s had on the GIANTS and we wish her all the best in her future endeavours.”

The GIANTS are excited to announce they have signed young midfielder Caitlin Fletcher for the upcoming 2025 AFLW season as a replacement player for retired club legend Pepa Randall.

A 21-year-old inside midfielder, Fletcher joins the GIANTS’ AFLW program in place of Randall who recently announced her retirement after 62 games in orange and charcoal- the second-most of any AFLW GIANT behind only Alicia Eva.

While currently playing for North Melbourne’s VFLW side, Fletcher is no stranger to the GIANTS, having been a train-on for the club’s AFLW program for the last two years.

Fletcher – who can play on ball or as a defender – played for the GIANTS’ VFLW side last year and was even named in the extended squad for the club’s AFLW Pride Round clash with the Crows last year after impressing as a train-on.

As well as having played locally for the Paramatta Goannas, Fletcher also represented AFL NSW/ACT in a state clash against Tasmania last year where she was named best on ground.

Standing at 171cm, the young talent joins the GIANTS in the midst of a VFLW campaign with the Kangaroos in which she’s played two games and averaged 18.5 disposals and 3.5 tackles per game.

And a couple of late delistings ...

Young utility Indi Linde and speedster Sophie Kavanagh have been informed that they will not be offered GIANTS contracts for the 2026 AFLW season.

Linde was drafted out of the Eastern Ranges with pick 40 in the 2023 AFLW Draft and touted for her athleticism and running ability and featured seven times for the GIANTS across two seasons. Injury interrupted her first season in 2024 before she delivered an impressive debut match against Port Adelaide in round 10. Linde added to her tally with six more games in 2025 but found it hard to cement her position as an outside midfielder.

Kavanagh joined the GIANTS this year as a replacement player for Haneen Zreika, after Zreika announced she was expecting a child and would be unavailable for season 10. The local talent was a former GIANTS train on and played an important role off the bench for the GIANTS in seven games this season. Featuring in both the back line and as an outside midfielder, Kavanagh’s versatility made her an important performer at AFLW scrimmage, however, fierce competition for spots made it difficult for Kavanagh to firm her place at AFLW level.

GIANTS Executive General Manager of AFLW, Alison Zell, wished both Kavanagh and Linde all the best for the next chapter of their football journeys.
