Welcome With Pick 33 Geelong Football Club Selects Hunter Holmes

We have delisted a bloke who is a great kick but runs like he is in treacle.

We have drafted a bloke who runs like a scalded cat but can’t kick to save himself.

I think it’s pretty obvious what we value as a footy club.

Aren't both going to be running around together wearing their Bankers guernseys next year

We paid 20 for Max on less exposed form. He is super raw so the tape doesn't bother me. It is clear to me that we weren't looking at many else.

Our club has a good record at developing this type of prospect. This gen is getting an identity to ensure that running power isn't an issue.

Looking forward to seeing how H2 grows after a pre-season or two.

Omg, I just got an 18 year member award, way to make me feel old BigFooty,

On Hunter, it’s pure speed - can’t teach it but can develop the rest. In time I reckon he will be playing wing when our current wingers become mids.

I'm hoping Dempsey develops an inside game like Holmes did and become an A grade mid.

So, do we instruct Hunter he is to go handball first and only kick if he has no option
As someone said its the Mark Blake rule.

Hunter Hearst Holmesly gets the ball, takes 5 bounces and runs the ball from HBF to f50, handballs to Jezza who kickes the goal.

HHH gets 70 goal assists that way.

This may just be a salary-cap-efficient way to make sure we can pay max what he is worth. Spread the salary across the brothers.

Geelong evil geniuses manipulating the AFL rules again.

I am here for it.
It's a bit like Donald █████'s plausible deniability around his family business divestments after becoming POTUS.

Just let Jared Kushner and Donny Jnr. "run" the business and don't pay yourself a salary and nobody will bat an eye.

I see a kicking technique that can be improved with some work pretty quickly. Get him into a professional program. Put on 5-10kg (reckon he’ll have a bigger frame than Max in time) and I think he’ll improve dramatically. Lots to work with.

So do I fwiw YOTC - I've read the rap sheet; raw, erratic by foot.

In this set of highlights he mis-kicks regularly - yet in this game his kicking looks fine and his ball drop/foot contact looks pretty sound.

I don't think the kicking will be all that much of an issue, particularly as his exposure to our club's program increases, just as you say.

apologies to Hunter as I slept thru 2 alarms and never woke up for this....

Thanks cats_09 for taking over.

I see the emphasis will be on the run and carry part of this job description rather than the kicking right now.... but that will come.

Clearly a punt on future development and will see years in the VFL - but the tuff you cant teach (pace and agility) are there in spades... so lets see what he can learn.

With his speed and run and carry and Stevens kicking skill... what a player between the 2 of them
