Khawaja will get the chop I think. Back spasms day 1 of a series does not bode well

I'd be curious to know if the issue was present before the coin toss - if it was something he was struggling with, was he going to open the batting if we batted first and then see how things went from there?

If it was an issue going into the test, then got to ask why we did pull the trigger to change the line up and pre-warn Labs he'd be opening

Think its an end of an era

We will struggle to win these Ashes with our aging team and limited depth

Forget about the Ashes in UK in 2027 ... we will get slaughtered

Our bowlers and 1 or 2 or batsman have been papering up the cracks for years. The signs were there during the last ashes in England.

If England don't do their bazball rubbish in their second innings they will win this easily. They have all the time in the world to grind a huge lead.

Brendan Doggett.
First Test Match.
First test wicket.
First test bat.
All on the first day,

Surely a … dare I say it… first?
Rodney Hogg 1978 vs England. Test debut made 36 and got 2 wickets on day 1.

It’s all on the selectors.
Gifting games to players clearly past it in Warner, Ussie etc
No younger players given a genuine go.
As bad as the batting is, no quicks under 30 is also a major issue.
Lean times coming up.

What’s doubly annoying is much like Headingley 2019 when England got bowled out for 67 in the first innings you can’t even go back and laugh at funny English 1st innings dismissals like Crawley, Root and Stoke’s here because of the utter trash the Aussie batters served up in response.

Same but I'd take Marsh too. The problem is they'd still get that one good ball from Archer and co.
Yeah go with the blokes that have actually played test cricket or look to the future. Weatherald isnt Mike Hussey.

Marsh would be a risky selection again but at least he’d have 30 on the board before you blink.

What a diabolical day of Test cricket. Batsmen with no fortitude make the day a very disappointing watch. Bowlers performed well but some terrible shots to get out make batsmen look stupid and bowlers look like geniuses.

Was the wicket a mine field? Or just weak batting

Only saw the Aussie innings, but even looking at the scores it was a lively pitch which a couple of new ball bowlers exploited the most out of.

Then some frustration crept in and batsmen threw it away late. Scoring seemed to get easier as ball got older, yet both sides then collapsed in a heap.

Although that may also be due to both having very long tails.

Need to get in some batsmen under the age of 25 who actually have a solid basis of batting technique and grit.

And actually give them a few tests to entrench themselves in the team.

Probably need at least... three or so
