Not unhappy with this one at all. Great depth and even greater experience. We now have super versatility and depth in our talls/ruck stocks.

It’s like having Pav (Treacy) and Sandi (Darcy), plus a Sandi/Fyfe/Pav hybrid (Jackson), another Sandi (Cox), a Pav/Sandi clone on angry pills (Voss) another Pav (Amiss)

I get what you are saying, but that’s too many Pav hybrids

Sacrilege! Pav played forward, midfield and back… we could use 3 of him in every line!
He was amazing, I don’t think Amiss is anything like Pav though, Treacy yes, Voss is kind of like Pav but not Sandi, in fact I don’t even think Darcy is like Sandi, Cox is definitely like Sandi though. I’d give you Jackson as a part Pav hybrid.

Yanks in general love "Fish out of water comes good" stories like Mason's, so the fact he's coming to play here actually opens up an opportunity or two for us to generate extra goodwill over there.

There's a surprisingly large number of AFL Amateur clubs in the US, and the whole US Combine testing thing isn't going to be going away in a hurry. On the contrary, Mason is proof that there's value in pursuing it.

If the game continues to grow in the US, it can only be a good thing, as sooner or later, the US is going to produce a player with genuine Judd, Ablett, or Fyfe-like attributes... And when such a player finally does come along, I want them to play for Freo.

All pro sports players always start out as amateurs. Mason certainly did. And much as it rankles me to say it, he still has two more premiership medals than either Fyfe or Pav.

I don't give a tinker's taint where our players come from... This is a multicultural club, and America is just another culture.

Most importantly though, I want this whole fcukin "no silverware at Freo" monkey OFF OUR FCUKIN BACKS FOREVER -- NOT SOONER OR LATER, NEXT FCUKIN SEASON!

If Mason creates the necessary ruck depth to make that happen, then I say welcome aboard mate.

Give the guy a chance everyone.

He's not playing at Collingwood anymore, he's playing for us. Assuming I'm remembering things correctly, that is actually supposed to count for something.

We need less americanisation of the game. Not more
Nah.... Little chance of that happening in a hurry mate. Mason is still the outlier here, not the norm.

Rather than America influencing Footy for the worse, think of the potential for the opposite i.e.: footy influencing America for the better

If Bluey can do it, so can we.

Very well said. I have a son who has lived in Denver for over 20 years and went to many USAFL national titles when he was playing.

AFL is alive and well in the USA, growing well and featuring both men's and women's competitions. At least 50% of each team needs to be Americans to ensure the competition dosen't become an exhibition of Aussies playing Aussies.

Having spent a reasonable amount of time in various parts of the USA over many visits my opinion is that by and large Americans are decent and genuine people.

A bit of banter is fine but anything more than that is totally unnecessary.

Americans on YouTube LOVE Aussie Rules! There's about 6 or 7 dozen examples of this guy and his reaction to it, they think it's mental. They are right, but that's what makes it such an awesome sport :grinv1:

Well, when you compare it to NFL, not surprising really.

Got three 15 minutes, they had 2x plays, before I got thoroughly bored.

And I can watch cricket

Lol they don't really love Aussie rules they know Australians suck it up with the views and they get paid

If we can get [PLAYERCARD]Mason Cox[/PLAYERCARD] Prelim Final 2018 v Richmond a few times...OMG!

He wouldn’t have came over if he was to be playing for peel. He would have been assured he would be playing so looks like cox will be our forward ruck, Darcy the primary ruck and Jackson will be in the middle as the link up player through the middle when the ball is bombed out of the back half lol it sounds crazy but I like it. You could use Darcy on one side of the ground and Jackson on the other to get the big mark out of defense and boot it long to our talls cox, treacy, amiss, voss. The extra man on the bench helps the possibility of this to work also

Please, pllease, please, DO NOT refer to them as AFL amateur teams, They are Aussie rules amateurs.
AFL is a brand name. The name of the game is Australian rules football or Aussie rules.
Other than that gripe, I agree .

He is playing for Peel. He has been guaranteed opportunities throughout the year. For example there will be management or injury time replacement for Darcy and he will play those games. There will be decent opportunity.

He was not best 23 for Collingwood and he is not best 23 for Fremantle.

He played 11 VFL games vs 10 AFL games in 2025. Collingwood in total played 25 AFL games. So likely injured or held over for 4 other games.

I’d expect 5-10 games max.

There is no way on earth he is playing in a forward line that already has Amiss, Treacy, Voss.

Then there is Luke Jackson rolling through Half Forward at times in addition to ruck and midfield.

Bolton and Murphy Reid rotating between forward and mid.

Then there is Switta and Fredericks who are both best 23.

Not to mention we have recruited two more (Sweid and Murray) who add to forward mix.

The only communication I have heard from Walls is that he Cox has not been recruited just to play at Peel but he will come and have a real crack to play seniors. I’d expect nothing else.

First choice 23 (including bench) doesn’t include Cox. We have essentially three rucks and three tall forwards at the expense of more running midfielders is a mistake and won’t last long before we get found out especially high running quick transition teams.

Darcy out which will happen provides an opportunity for Cox. Potentially an injury to one of tall forwards and that could also option an opportunity with LJ and or Cox in the forward line but that is it.

He has come from being a back-up at Collingwood and then delisted. He isn’t being recruited via rookie list to be a starting 23 player.
