Carlton ran TDK into the ground last season to get him to 100 games.

He will play 100 games at least with us so his sons will know which club to pick

They listed those above him and that he was competing for a spot from there.

They weren’t going to bury Jack without giving him a chance to find a club he can play consistently at AFL level for.

It’s sad for everyone. An ex-captain of our club and well loved and well regarded.
But we are supposed to be a professional competition.
Sounds like they handled it as empathetically as possible but at the end of the day no one’s career lasts forever. As romantic as it sounds to be able to finish at your club you’ve played the majority of your career, real life is not always so tidy.
I’m happy he’s getting a chance to continue playing seniors elsewhere rather than sitting in the VFL. That would be pretty demoralising.

The club did the right thing by being honest with him so he could weigh up his options, then helped facilitate him getting to where he chose to go
