I don't care that he was approached. If Hawkes got close to the asking price I would've been happy to see it taken. They chased, got told the price, offered less and sooked.

So glad the deal didn’t go through thought the offer was overs for a 30 yo who is closer to the end of his career and Hawks have now set up its list profile for sustained success over the next decade picking up some good kids while improving its bargaining power to chase an A grader next year ……. and Merrett will walk to the Hawks for peanuts in two years if he still wants to leave!

Regardless of the offer from Essendon the (good) players in these situations all sign a good deal (~$1m a year) through till their free agency year, expect nothing different from Josh..
