Kids a jet. Has elite speed, will be perfectly suited for the MCG. I’m not certain if he can become a full time mid, but he won’t have to still make it as an elite player. You can run him part time mid and let him float around as a damaging wingman.
His speed is more straight line, give and get style.
And that sidestep at speed!! Wowee

Damn bad news and feel sorry for this kid
apparently, they got his coffee order mixed up today on the way to training
watching you nick offerman GIF

I left out the bit about how the club acquired picks 51, 61 etc. If you are really good and ask nicely I will make another post about that, entitled "The Acquisition of Pick 8 2025 - The Prequel."

It seems no matter how much you give some people, they just want more. :)
We seriously need a vomit emoji

Reckon despite being taken pretty high Grjl is going to be called “underrated” at least through the first part of his career

One of the best things a footy player can be called

1,000 times better than “a potential star”

Was pick 8. Like the following…

Hits- Dyson Heppell, Dan Curtain, Caleb Serong.

Average- Toby Travaglia, Jy Amiss, Griffen Logue, Callum Ah Chee, Peter Wright, Luke MacDonald

Miss- Jhye Clarke, Nick Cox, Tarryn Thomas, Hunter Clark, Sam Mayes, Billy Longer.

Not a great list there. Hope he makes it to the top list but that entire group should temper our expectations a little.

Irrelevant to how Sam Grjl’s career plays out

Apart from the number he was taken has almost nothing in common with most of those you’ve mentioned

The number you’re drafted at does not somehow become a player’s destiny

I’ve only seen the highlights that everyone has seen but pace + endurance + attitude + side step = the sort of player that opposition supporters might dismiss but people who watch the game rate highly

Not a lock to become exceptional because his highlights had some examples to him handballing to players under pressure

But has as good a chance of becoming a Shedda type as any I’ve seen recently

The question is does norf pick duds or do players become duds when picked by norf?

The latter.
McDonald was a top talent but never developed. Thomas was similar and turned into a douchbag that they refused to reign in until too late. Logue was a good pick up at the time but has middled out.

Agree with all that.
But you obviously didn’t read the post I responded to for context.

If I am under rating him then we'd better watch out. His ceiling is the sky. Long way to go. But his combo of speed, diagonal acceleration (not just sidestep), toughness and attitude is elite. Skills good, but not elite. The basis is there for Grilj to be a game breaker like few are. although that is his ceiling, not what will be. Hopefully the ceiling is what he becomes.

Not a Shedda type. Doesn't have the genius footy smarts or sublime 'too fast to see' skills.

But he has incredible acceleration and ability to cut through traffic, likes it tough and will go all day. He could be as good as Sheds, but different. 🤞

Are you comparing him to 300 game shedda or the guy who turned up year one 60kg ringing wet

This kid is going to compliment the rest of our list perfectly. Time will tell if he’s better than Robey or Sharp, but right now I’ve got no doubt he’s a more important piece to complete our list puzzle. When you watch the best teams you see the likes of Blakey, Whitfield, Ash, Fletcher, Wilmot, Dale, Amon, Zorko, Holmes, Rioli, Clark running the lines at speed and spring boarding from half back - Grlj compliments Banks perfectly and should be a great 1-2 punch off half back. Whether he ends up midfield or not who knows ?? But IMO he’s a Monty to be at the very least a damaging HBF / winger, which is a puzzle piece we needed more than a big bodied mid-fwd.
