Congratulations to Darce for being picked for State Of Origin. Kick a Bag, but don't play too hard.

Victoria will win this by 30+

Purely off the back of it's crazy forward/Midfield lines

I wish none of our guys were.
Agree, great of the AFL to remove our two best forwards and Captain for this pretend game, expecting Richards, Libba and Dale to be selected for it as well, just so we can start the season with a VFL side playing seniors

I didn’t know it was only our players playing State of Origin in order to impact us directly

Personally, I think representative football (at all levels) is part of the culture of the game that makes it so great.

But if they're going to introduce state of origin football, do it properly - allow each and every player in the league the opportunity to represent someone, even if it's a non-perfect system like the Allies.

This match is more about WA whinging about not having enough high-level football in Perth, travel factors, the AFL's strategic aim of extending the football calendar into Feb (they'll alternate it ever years with the Indigenous All-Stars game, which was at the same time in the same ground last year), than it is about a genuine, sincere belief and investment about what's good about SOO footy, which is a shame IMO.

Personally love seeing the guys from our side represent their states

I definitely get the appeal for fans and players alike and I will watch it. However the risk of urgency concerns me, I get the risk of injury is also there in scratch matches but atleast there is some strategic/bonding/fitness benefits to them that you dont get from a state game.

Strangely, I think the Vics probably need to lose to create interest going forward. If the Big V belt them which they will if they a fair dinkum, then interest will die. I think City Hall will want the Vics to lose in close one and the game maybe played to a script with a bit disguise. Nice to see 3 dogs in the Vic team Bont, Darcy and Butters LOL.

Likely an unpopular opinion but why not have a lengthy SOO series every fourth year to replace the normal AFL season?

There is no higher level of footy than SOO and when it comes around every fourth year, it will be huge. Similar to the Olympics and Soccer World Cup being every fourth year. For clarity, I'd be proposing every fourth year the entire season be replaced by SOO.

Vic, SA, WA, Tas, NSW, QLD, NT and Allies. That's eight teams. Have 14 rounds so every team plays each other twice, home and away. The top four teams at the end of the season play finals like the traditional final four system. This system would potentially allow some of the lesser likes for Vic, SA & WA to play for their state when they're drawn against weaker opposition such as NSW and QLD.

This would also mean we play at Geelong only three times every four years which would be an improvement on our current schedule.

Respectfully, this is the worst idea since AFLX.

I'm still trying to figure out what Allies in this context is (ACT + Internationals?)
