Well here is a start. Many, if not most on here solemnly proclaim democracy is dead in the US. That is obviously absurd given they have had two rather large municipal elections in New York and Tennessee along with others in Miami. The elections were fought as they always have been fought and won by different sides. If that is not democracy then I don't know what is.

We have also seen the hysteria over the Venezuelen boat saga with 'experts' on here solemnly proclaiming it to be a war crime and/or murder. And that Trump and Hesgeth are somehow responsible. This story was seized upon however with nearly every 'scandal' involving Trump it was just empty - just vaccuous nonsense at the end of the day.

Pre election we had people earnestly declaring that Trump would make abortion illegal. Nothing of the sort has happened. In fact, there are less states now than before where abortion is illegal.

And I'm not even including the plethera of memes and X posts from nobodies whose pronouncements are treated like they are gospel.

I await next weeks scandal with interest. I'm predicting it will be Trump must have destroyed the spookily named 'Epstein Files' because his name is not mentioned in it and there is no smoking gun. But it could be anything else. Nothing surprises me.

That US democracy is not yet completely dead is no argument against the bleeding obvious fact that courtesy of Trump it is undergoing the most sustained and targeted assaults in its 250 year history.

I get exhausted just reading about all the deal making and corruption going on. I keep coming back to, what possible motivation do these people who already have more money than could be spent in multiple lifetimes of having anything you want, have for their endless grifting for more. It's an illness and the sooner society classifies wealth hoarding as a mental illness the better. Same for people who want to control everything and everybody like Ellison and Thiel. It's just anxiety and insecurity that is off any measurable mental health scale. They are sick.

Thing is people will parse the meaning of the word 'democracy'. Oh there will be elections, just like there were elections in the communist bloc before, or here when there was single-party rule with martial law thrown in. People who advocated for 'full, free elections' got sent to a prison island or disappeared.
Democracy will definitely have a different meaning if the Repubs have their way.

To use some cliches, there are a lot of red flag and smoke. Those that forget history are doomed to repeat it. Any idiot not alarmed by what's going on in the Caribbean have forgotten Iraq II already. The gerrymandering has already been occurring at high levels by the Rs, with them telling judge to eff off. Now its in the open with Trump, but same shit. Some states are 50-50, but elections end up 70-30 seat differential.
