Not ideal but makes some sense. We lost a lot of leadership experience over the offseason.
At 33 by the start of next season and on a min 2 year deal, it does come with some risk

I agree that leadership experience has likely played into this decision

Between the retirements of Meg Mac, Darby, Scott & Fowler, plus the delisting of Bragg, we've lost 5 30+ players from this years list

Pre-additions, we would have gone into next year with Crockett-Grills, Surman, Emonson & Parry (30 in July) as our veteran aged players, so Stevens brings that tally up to 5 which seems slightly better balanced than the 7 available for selection this past season, and I'm not sure we'll see all of them in the playing 21 each week

She'll hopefully be help take some pressure off Gunjaca who's clearly our #1 key defender, as we've got an experience gap to those coming through - kinda help bridge the gap as we get games into Gregor (9 games) and now also Brook (10) who are young taller defenders.

Can St Kilda send this list manager to the trade table next year...

This now locks in our future first which is good, and some flexibility with the future third coming back

The price is not too bad but I dont see the point of trading for stevens at her age.

This will be a shorter commute for work commitments

And as per Mitch Cleary - Stinear was given Melbourne life membership on Sunday after 10 seasons at the helm dating back to the start of the competition

I read before we were supposedly part of a 4-club trade which failed to be approved by the deadline. I wonder what the trade entailed. Guess we'll never know.

Last gasp by North and Bulldogs?

Any chance we can get the Bulldogs player who wanted to go to North Melbourne, but ended up in the draft?
I wouldn't be using pick 7 on her, but if she's still there at 25 then it's maybe something to consider

But reading comments from her manager, I wonder if she'd be worth the potential headache that could come with selecting her, though I wouldn't mind if another club took that risk

This is what her manager said following yesterday's deadline:

"She'll get to North Melbourne. She's committed and they're committed to taking her. She'll get to North Melbourne," he said.

Oakes said he has a "beer deal" with Hawthorn women's footy boss Keegan Brooksby and doesn't believe the Hawks will pounce, while Weston-Turner had already declined Brisbane's interest given she didn't want to move interstate and he said he hopes the Lions "respect that".

Interesting that according to the list changes on the AFLW website, they're listing Erica Fowler as having retired, yet her name appears on the list of players who have nominated for next week's draft.

Noticed an Olivia Fuller is also on the list - wonder if that's the same Liv Fuller who was on our AFLW list a few seasons back before she decided to join the air force as a firefighter....

Wondering if she doesn't want to commit this far out to playing a full season, the training etc, but to keep herself open as a replacement player she needs to nominate for the draft?

One question I have regarding our list is what's happening with - Julia Crockett-Grills, Bryde O’Rourke & Chantal Mason?

The most recent contract news I've seen for JC-G was she signed a contract through to 2026, and I believe O'Rourke & Mason would have received 2yr deals as draftees which runs out this year

They aren't mentioned in the list changes, but I also haven't seen any mention of contract extensions for any of those 3

North were so committed that they offered only rubbish pics. As she plays for the Bulldogs, she may live on the west side close to Geelong. I certainly wouldn’t give pic seven so 25 sounds alright. She has taken the risk of going to the draft instead of staying with bulldogs. Some club should take a stand to prevent a good player walking to the current premiers for nothing who are dominating the game unfortunately.

I'm guessing the air force thing didn't work out
