Butts suits us a lot better now.

When we were coughing up 65 inside 50's per game, it was great to have Murray jumping all over the place to kill the high balls.

Now we've got gun intercepters in Keane and Worrell, we don't need someone cannon balling into them.

There is also the issue of Murray losing his speed and agility since the knee. I don't know if he'll ever get those back.

That doesn't seem to be how Nick's and the coaches work though, Murray seems to be their preferred player over Butts but my feel is Butts, Keane, Worrell is the best mix for us.

I agree that was the case last year and may be again. But I think we need to take into account Muz was returning from an ACL and then did another reasonable injury. I expect he’ll be a fair bit better this year. But he was woeful compared to what Butts was giving us before he got injured.

Agree, I had Murray before Butts as well, I think it might come down to who we play, if the oppo have a smaller forward line then Murray, if it is taller then Butts

Probably not, seeing the other factor is Worrell and Keane. You effectively need to pick one or the other at all times and let them get as much time together as possible.

Rach is too athletic to be stuck as a small forward, hope he gets decent midfield minutes this year

It's ball winning skills, not athleticism that decides that. I'm pretty skeptical Rash will ever make the switch.

Hey everyone, I went today and have a lot to say, but I’m a tad swamped at the moment.

I’ve started writing up the report but I’ll probably have to wait until tomorrow night to finish it, as I’m heading to the test tomorrow (wish me luck in that heat).

Given it turned out to be the last session, I’ll write a really comprehensive report and probably add a small summary of the pre season so far as well.

Obviously you’ve seen the footage above. It was a bunch of AFLX-style games and then a huge amount of running back and forth. Three hour session in 32 degree heat. Our new Irish bloke isn’t messing around!

Ryan turned out to be fine and only Keane and Ah Chee didn’t show up. Ludowyke hurt his ankle in a contest but should be ok, despite having ice on it afterwards.

Apologies for the delay!

bigman - how is Edwards matching the A team midfield?

Would like to see us fast track him next season, mainly off a wing.
Hard to judge his midfield work given there’s not a whole lot of stoppages.

Certainly knows where to run to get easy ball, but his contest work lacks aggression. Doesn’t use his size enough.

AFLX? Premiers confirmed.

It's test cricket mate. You can wriye a report and not miss that much.

Killing the running and also bench pressing big numbers, agreed - hope he gets some decent midfield minutes.

But don't underestimate the value of a small/medium forward. Took a while for everyone to learn the importance of a back flanker but we now all know - small/med forwards have been making an impact on the last few grandfinals. Not to mention Greene, Heeney etc

But you’re not getting there without a higher end midfield.
