Article about Jai Serong, also there is a mention of psychologist Ed Barlow who really helped him cope ...

Absolutely brilliant.
So many of the guys looking really good. Only snippets but I specially liked what I saw from Harry (so composed and precise), Hamling (great positioning, still got it), Edwards (strength, positioning and second efforts), Curnow (110% effort), Papley (the fittest I can recall seeing him in years). Everyone was putting in but these really impressed me.
Anyone who thought Curnow was a lazy trainer should take a look at this.

Great article!
Back to the difference with this year and some previous. Guys who are hungry and competitive. Something to prove, if only to themselves. Welcoming the contest. Yet to see the footage that shows that for Rosas but he has talked the talk. All good signs.
I'm optimistic about what they bring.

Interview with McKirdy in HUN/Code

“The hardest part was just the uncertainty around what was actually wrong and how to fix it. I saw a lot of specialists and ended up having the second surgery.

“Some people said surgery, some people said no. It was just unique, no one had really seen it before, and it was a really challenging time – especially as a team when we weren’t playing the footy we were capable of.”

Changing clubs is never the thing that unlocks a player's potential. It's what the new club does for and to change the player that matters. If Rosas still has some of the same issues he had at the Suns then I don't think the Swans would be that shocked or concerned. He's been a Swan for about a month.

He did his hammy in the GC vs Carlton game in Rd 22 (played both VFL and was AFL sub), so most likely scenario is he was still a bit behind from his recovery.
But that was the middle of August. Allowing 3-4 weeks to recover from that he then had plenty of time to get himself ready for the return of players back in October. That was two months ago, so if he is still looking overweight, he's no chance for an early start to the seniors.

Was surprised so many had him in the potential round 1 team straight up, that was always going to be a stretch. He has a heap of work to do to put himself in contention, and if he doesn't work hard enough the system will chew and spit him out real quick.

There are multiple reasons to target a player during the off season, sometimes it's just a depth thing. For all we know the club might've recruited him purely for that.

But like i said previously, he offers us a point of difference. If he works hard enough and cements himself in the team then it will be a massive success. He's clearly backing himself by choosing us over an easier ride at Richmond, so hopefully he's matured enough to understand what's at stake and how hard he needs to work.

I agree with your first sentence, but not what follows.

If (?) he wasn’t putting in 100% at the Suns & has shown the same tendencies at the Swans - that’s a problem.

If (and it’s all speculation because none of us really know - the poor bloke might be busting a gut!) Rosas can’t bring himself to put in 100% in the early pre-season, I suspect the club would be concerned.

First impressions matter.

I'm struggling to find evidence that turned up to training unfit or overweight or unfit? Or are we now relying on the comments section of a Mongrel Punt article as a bastion of truth?

He's looked fine (to me at least) in the small sample of media the club has published, including the gym session last Wednesday. But I'm definitely not an expert in this area.

I agree that first impressions matter, but first impressions aren't final impressions in footy.

There's a great Lana Del Rey lyric I'm reminded of.

"I moved to California but it's just a state of mind. Turns out everywhere you go, you take yourself."

IF - and I say "if" because it's still entirely speculative at this point - Rosas had issues with his professionalism, work rate, etc. at Gold Coast., he'll still have those issues in Sydney. They likely wouldn't have gone anywhere just because he's signed on the dotted line and received a new jumper & locker. It takes time and work and difficult conversations. I'm sure the club would've been prepared for this and not just expected Rosas to do a complete mental overhaul on the flight down.

Malceski would have had alot to do with Rosas. I'm sure he had some input before trading.
I would say they think they can get the best out of him.
A couple of other clubs were keen on him too.
Not like previous imports that were flops.(We were the only ones interested)
Agree. Too many people jumping to conclusions on hearsay and not much evidence.
