He has a wonderful ability to put the previous ball in the past and concentrate just in the here and now.
He's doing a great job as an opener but I'd still prefer to see him bat down the order. Someone used to say that your best should bat at #4
I agree re Head, it’s just who would open in the long term (after usman retires) as Jake is very average. Maybe Kellaway with Marnus, mcsweeney at 3, smith, head, Carey, Webster or green,

Don’t see the harm in this line up for the remaining tests, harsh on usman but we should blood some youngsters

I don't think Jake is very average, but he also won't be one of the all-time greats. He is the sort who could play 40 tests with an average of between 35 to 40. Not great, but the occasional good score will keep him in the team.
In the meantime, you are right in that we need another opener or two, but I think it is way too early for Kellaway just yet (although he is a better option than Konstas). I don't know who else there is though, so it might be Head for the next 12 months.

We have a problem in the future batsmen full stop.

Tendulkar used to open in the one dayers. In tests i think he was first drop.
Greg Chappell I think batted at 4.
Chewy gum chewing Viv came in at 3 with no helmet.
I think Ponting came in at 3.

I think if you have good openers then the best batsman at 4 makes sense.

Geoff Chappell batted 3. Ponts worked his way up the order. I always heard that the best #3 was the guy who could attack when you were 1/200 or defend when you were 1/2. Doug Walters was always 5 or 6 where you want someone who can tear the opposition to shreds or bat with the tail. We have a real problem with the next generation. Short form cricket reduces the opportunity to learn technique.
