Starting to question the talent. Only so many “dumb” dismissals you can have before you question technique. How much of it is talent and how much of it is having 60m boundaries on pancake wickets

Said it earlier, he is Glenn Maxwell. If Maxwell was a pom, he would be playing in this Bazball team.

He would be smacking teams about on postage stamp size grounds and flat decks. But then also getting bowled, reverse sweeping when in complete control. How many times have we seen our boy Sir Glenn do something dumb to get out, but we have also seen him win games off his own bat numerous times.

If you went through Brooks strengths, I reckon they would be very similar to Glenn.

Was reported last week that he hates team meetings and as follows, the Poms really don’t have them apparently

Seems to be a figjam type.

none if we get them all out in under 80 overs.
we were behind in first innings and that was 87.2 overs so we need to get them all out by 73 overs (160 total)

Australia hasn’t won a series in England in 24 years, still hasn’t stopped tour packages selling out every series
Australia are still ultra competitive in England. The last two Ashes series over there have been among the best this century.

England, on the other hand, get absolutely steamrolled every time they come here (bar 2010/11).

Shout out to Alex Carey's imperious form behind the stumps.

Australia has been blessed with some unbelievable modern era glovemen and it’s great to see Carey move into the upper echelon.

I'd have him on par with Ian Healy who maybe gets the nod for keeping to Shane Warne at his best, who must have been a challenge to pick.

But standing up to the stumps, to Boland and Nesser, and gloving the ball so cleanly...that is something I will always remember. Maybe takes him past Healy.

Gone are the days of the gold coin donation... $30! Cost of living copping a beating... No wonder we'll get interest rate increases in 2026
If CA had standards they’ll charge the same for day 5 of the MCG & SCG tests (if they last to that day), ridiculous. 12 years ago entry to day 5 of the 2nd Ashes test at AO was free even with most of the (at the time being built) east stand not available. We also needed only 4 wickets to win. Go figure…

Good comparison and pretty much it’s why I’m not buying the hype, similar with Bethell who I think will have some amazing performances then the next knock he’ll do something silly.

Brook has never sounded like the sharpest tool in the shed. He batted like that to get himself out today. It's the problem when a culture of no accountability for performances and no competition for places take hold.

Heals reckoned Warnie was easy to pick.

My combined Ashes 11:

Head
Weatherald
Marnus
Smith
Ussie
Carey
Stokes
Cummins
Stark
Lyon
Boland

I very nearly went with Green at 7 as he’s better in the field and is less of a drama queen but Stokes has had a couple of good partnership so I’ve been generous and given him a spot 😎
Crawleys been better than weatherald.

GENTLE REMINDER:

Joe Root's average (22.6) against Pat Cummins is less than David Warner's average (26.8) against Stuart Broad.

Surprised Warners average was that. I’m guessing he was averaging about 50 off him for the first half of his career because he’d had less than 10 from the 2019 Ashes onwards

We retained the Ashes and stopped England from winning the Ashes in their last two home series. If you retain the Ashes on foreign soil, I regard that as a win.

Crawley on Brooks dismissal - “Personally I’d rather see someone get out like that rather than defending, on that pitch,”

I do t expect him to throw Harry under the bus, but c’mon, this makes you look like a campaigner

If you took out the outstanding fielding and handy bowling.

The home crowds can be insufferable when they're on top. Mainly the Western Terrace at Yorkshire, the temporary stand at Lancashire and the Hollies Stand at Edgbaston. They've become hives for dickheads. Other parts of the ground are generally ok, but as a UK-based fan, I'm done with the grounds outside London. Ashes matches attract non-cricket football knobs. They won't be the ones staying up in the middle of the night to watch the series in Australia.
They are a different breed in Northern England.....but you need to understand them first TBH......and that's something, even after 3-4 years living in Leeds, I still struggled to do

At least if we can survive the first hour tomorrow, Khawaja will have a cry when they get fined for a slow over rate.
Nothing is as slow as England's winning in Australia rate - 15 years and counting.
